zedaxax
My Laptop Keyboard is Damaged (liquid)[:^(] A New Keyboard installed is almost the cost of a new Laptop. The Fn key no longer works.... The Fn key + Left Arrow originally made my screen Brighter or Darker. Had to Reinstall, Screen Brightness is now on Lowest (Very Low) Default. Cannot use Fn key Have searched the Entire Web for anything Relating to Fn key, Remapping, Alternatives, Virtual Fn keys, Registry tweaks anything All - External keyboards with Fn keys dont work. No solutions anywhere Does Anybody Anybody know anything - dos command anything so i can up my screen brightness. (and No, my Ati grfx card options only ups the brightness to hell, contrast wise, have tried many other softwares to up screen brightness)) i need some kind of Fn pusher to get the lightbulbs behind the screen to lighten. Please Thank you - Please I am using XPpro, on an Siemens AmiloD 2ghz Edited June 22, 2004 by zedaxax

I8PP
Doesn't this laptop (which make/model would be helpful to others as well) allow you to reset the damn thing to factory settings? Does the manual state anything about it at all?
Hooya
Read his post again. He did just do that, and now the contrast is at it's lowest level. That's the factory default. As a possible solution, and this is mildy risky, but I'm pretty sure it will work. You said that the damage was caused by liquid. Well, I know of someone that spilled Sour Apple Liquor on his keyboard while he was drunk, and the whole system was totally fcked up. Well, the warranty replaced the computer, but they never asked for the damaged one back, so he took it to a technician friend of his and asked what he could do. The techie said that they usually just take the thing totally apart, remove the bios battery so there is no electrical current in the board at all, then just scrub the thing down with liquid soap and water! That's right, dish soap and water! So it's worth a try. Just make sure there is NO ELECTRICAL CURRENT AT ALL running through it while it's wet. After he put the thing back together (and after letting it dry over night) he turned it on and it worked just like it did before. I would not suggest trying this on any drives though (too easy for water to just sit in there) Good Luck!
Post-It Note
It's pretty wierd how they didn't ask your friend to send it back. Maybe he was suppose to and he didn't know?
zedaxax
Thanx for the tips I am using FujitsuSeimens Amilo D, 2ghz. The Power strip and Gamma changer both only change the brightness&contrast over the Very low brightness of the screen. Which is the same as what my Ati card does. So this does not help. Hooya - before i start taking the machine apart - i will first try hopelessly to find a simpler solution. Yours is my last resort. Funny thing is that if i take out the electric plug from the laptop and it runs on batteries - the brightness increases a little bit (meaning my screen is set lower than energy saving) However finds a solution should copyright it - theres a lot of people out there with similar fn problems. Black Hawk
You can remap the keys in the registry but I have no idea how.
g3nu1n3
This may or may not help ... just give it a shot. Keytweak is a free keyboard remapper for Windows NT/2000/XP. It makes use of Microsoft's Scancode Map registry key to remap your keyboard. Link: http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/
