I made one, and I feel it looks pretty good. PM me if you are interested, and willing to give feedback on it, then I will ask Marvilla's permission to send to you, as she is the original creator. Once and if she gives me permission, then I will let you try them out. Actually I made a mini shell pack with explorer.exe, iexplore.exe, mstask.dll, mydocs.dll, netshell.dll, shdocvw.dll, stobject.dll, url.dll, and wiashext.dll. I cannot publish this out so sorry to everyone, but until I get one persons' feedback after getting Marvilla's permission, and then spend a lttle more time detailing and adding to it, it wil not be a option for me to give this out. Included is a post of Marvilla's license included with the Pastels icons, that I will respect and obide by, as I completely respect the artist that took the time to create such awesome icons to give away freely. :)

Wow, I'm just waking up here, and I have gotten a good amount of responses via PM of others wanting this, and others who are willing to contribute their hard work to the project as well. I am about to PM Marvilla now, but I had a thought. Being as SP2 is just around the corner (couple of weeks, I think), should I go ahead and get ask permission and release a shell pack that is made for SP1, or hold of releasing a SP1 pack and play around customizing bitmaps, AVIs, etc. to add to one of the first shell packs to be released for SP2? One of my main concerns is time, because I have a 9 1/2 month pregnant wife who could pop at any minute   :woot: :woot: . My daughter's due date was actually last Monday 6/21, but she didn't want to come out to play yet, so we are going in Friday morning to induce my wife. This being said, I know she will be very tired, due to having the baby, then breast feeding every two hours, so I will be trying to get her as much rest as possible by watching my daughter whenever she can get a few moments sleep in. I really do not want to rush this project either, just to hurry and release it, as I feel it will be one of the greatest shell mods created. These are just my thoughts. Please, any feedbacks or suggesstions are welcome.

Thanks a lot Devil, it's good knowing you are there for help, as it has always been your shell packs that I have personally used so far! Preducer was one of the ones that I was referring to, who had gotten in touch with me. He stated that he got the permission, yet now does not have the time to be able to do the project, and he is willing to send what work he has done so far to compare, and assist with mine. So, that is good knowing that he got permission to do it, hopefully I will as well. As you stated, it has been difficult so far, with not a very high quantity of icons, yet I have found that some of the icons can be used for different things. That being said, it may not be as "detailed" as perhaps some of the other shell packs, like your GANT 2 pack for example, but in my learnings, I have learned quality is better than quantity 99% of the time, and these icons look steller with some of the new and old visual styles, my favorite being OpusOS blue. Here is a screenie of what I mean:

I do think this will be 200% better looking than that when done, but we'll see. Devil, what are your thoughts on the "do it now, or wait for SP2?" issue.

:D the Monkey- :D

I vote wait for SP2. (who knows, maybe by then we'll even have more pastel icons? ... but I know she mentioned she was busy.. oh well)

For now you could work on:

-BMPs (toolbar, wizards, etc.)

-AVIs

-Maybe a website for it?

by the way, that's some really good news, and I wish you the best!! (about your new baby daughter)

That is more what I was leaning towards as well. I am now just awaiting to hear back from Marvilla. Thank You, for your kind words abought my baby, I am about as nervous right now as well, I don't even know... But kind words are always soothing.

Did this die ? :\

Patience friend, this is not a quick process if it is to be done correctly. :)

Nope, not dead at all. Just got Marvilla's reply, so I am full head into this. I will have to stop for a week or so at any given point though, because my wife and I still have not had our baby, which could be at any second. I was wondering if anyone has any decent tutorials on creating AVIs, or if anyone would like to step up and make some for me to include. I think I might have all the icon switches done, or close to done though, with a few minor exceptions. Also, I am now working on the BMPs mainly. The files that I have created as of now(minus BMPs and AVIs) are:

EXEs: explorer.exe, IEXPLORE.EXE, mspaint.exe, and notepad.exe

DLLs: fontext.dll, mshtml.dll, mstask.dll, mydocs.dll, netshell.dll, shdocvw.dll, shell32.dll, shimgvw.dll, stobject.dll, url.dll, user32.dl, and wiashext.dll

CPLs: access.cpl, Adobe Gamma.cpl, appwiz.dll, CamCpl.cpl (Logitech Webcam applet), desk.cpl, directx.cpl, hdwwiz.cpl, ImageDrive.cpl, inetcpl.cpl, intl.cpl, MLCFG32.CPL(Outlook 2003 mail applet), mmsys.cpl, ncpa.cpl, nusrmgr.cpl, powercfg.cpl, S32LUCP1.CPL(Symantec Live Update applet), sapi.cpl, sysdm.cpl, and timedate.cpl

More to come when I get a chance! It should be worth it!

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the delay, but my daughter was just born on July 2nd, so I have been away from my computer for a while. Also, in that time, I had a catastrophic hard drive failure and lost everything I had on that drive, including all my art, and customization files... sux bad. Luckily, I sent XanDaMan the first alpha version of my shell pack which is everything minus bitmaps and AVI files. So I got him to send it back, and in a couple of days, I will resume work on the shell pack, but for now, I am tending to my wife and daughter. My little girl came out weighing 10lb 7oz and measured 20.5" long, so needless to say, my wife is in some pain, but all is well, healthwise, with both of them, so I couldn't be happier. A couple of people have PMed me asking for the files, but what I will need soon is beta testers, those who will report any comments, bugs, abnormalities, etc... If you are interested, please PM me. F.Y.I. when this is completed, it will initially be released at www.gfxoasis.com first, being as that is Marvilla's site, and was the one favor she asked of me. Soon after, it will be released here as well, so do not worry. :D Once again, if anyone has any tutorials on the creation of the AVI files, or would be willing to make some to send to me, please get in touch through e-mail, or via PM here at Neowin,

Thanks All,

-J the Monkey-

I also need this shell. If you want I can host it on my webspace for your guys.

Whoever has it, just email me at: psugand[AT]gmail.com and I will send you some FTP details where you can upload it.

It is not finished yet, but once it is, I will shoot you an e-mail with the details.

Hi there mate

Congratulations on your new baby! I am sure you are enjoying your sleepless nights

I was wondering, do you have a link to the alien wallpaper you posted in that screenshot? It is absolutely fantastic!

Thanks mate!

Thanks for the kind words. The wallpaper in that shot was a rip from one of KOOL4U's desktop screenshots that I modded for the theme, so I cannot post it, as the vast majority is not my work. In fact, I lost it as part of that hard drive failure I mentioned before. As soon as I reinstall some of my software, I plan to rip it out of my own screenshots again to recreate it for myself. I wish I could be of more help, but my hands are tied on that. I am pretty sure that there is nothing wrong with ripping it yourself if you wanted to get it for personal usage though. It does rock with the OpusOS/Pastels theme!

    • Where is the "Wow!" emoji? This'll have to do 🤩
    • I hear you on browser password manager, in my case I have two Google profiles, one was created when Google decided to grandfather us out of Workspace for Domains (with the replacement being too expensive for 25 users) resulting in my domain email address no longer being able to be registered to a new Workspace I created (for myself and another co-owner) so I could use Takeout and sync over some stuff to the new Workspace. Then I have my personal Google profile which I could be logged into on my desktop or Mobile, so I am saving passwords on one or the other, and when an URL changes another password for the same service gets added, it basically ends up being a giant mess. Unless I missed something is there a local decent password manager that can override the browser password managers for Chrome, Edge, Firefox (profiles) so that there is only one vault, and does that also support Passkeys (which to me are still confusing because sometimes it will ask for a Passkey on a phone I am no longer using!) Microsofts implementation of Passkeys is the worst!
    • It's utterly baffling that we have no idea when we'll get new features even well after they've been released. Why Microsoft thinks this is a good rollout strategy is beyond me.
    • If it makes anybody happy, others will need to be bitter about it. (apologies to Yogi Berra)
    • I owned a lot of Soundblaster cards over the years all the way back to the ISA slot era. I use a Soundblaster X3 external now because I'm able to run it through a KVM and have it follow the machine I happen to be using. It drives a set of JBL 305 powered monitors wonderfully. I'm not gaming or doing home theater through it, so rear channels aren't a consideration for me, though it does have side / rear / sub outputs.
