I had heard rumors about this, but today I got an email from Earthlink saying my line speed has been increased from 1.5 Mbps to 3.0 Mbps. The best part is, they did this at no extra charge. I have been very pleased with the service I have gotten from Earthlink over the last 2 and a half years, but this was a pleasant surprise. Now, what to test it out on. :D

I have Earthlink Cable now for over a year now and service is great. No complaints and no problems. Before that I had Road Runner which in my opinion is the same thing but it cost me 20 dollars more because i had to get standard cable in order to pay 40 dollars a month, otherwise it was $60. Hopefully they will raise my speed too from 2 Mbps to 3 :)

hahaha suckaa. It's only 50 here w/out cable although I cannot receive it nor Earthlink :D:)   :(

Hmmm I might have to look into switching perhaps. I have optimum online and I get pretty good speeds but they keep capping me when I 'abuse' their service even though the TOS says that you can download or upload as much as you want. I get 6088 / 1864 (Down/up) and pay 50 bucks a month though.

Don't know what cable is.

Cable companies provide internet access over your tv cable lines. Check with earthlink and see if the provide cable internet access

I'm sorry - I meant I did not know what the cable rates in our area are in terms of upload and download speeds. I'm a dork.

I've got Earthlink DSL in Seattle and had only just recently noticed on their website that they had upped the speed and reduced the regular monthly rate from what I'm paying.

I called them to bitch  about why I wasn't getting the speed (only 300-700 down at most) and not getting the lower monthly rate that they were advertising and all the first two reps could say is "Sorry". I was not happy. I'm less than 6000 feet from the CO and my building is only a half dozen years old so I doubt it's distance or wiring that's causing the speed problems as Earthlink is blaming them on.

Long story short....they "tell" me I'm getting the lower rate, and that they're bumping my speed up. But as of 10:00 p.m. last night I've not had any internet at all, and still counting...

Is there anyone in this area who's had a similar experience with Earthlink DSL?

    • I cannot believe this is a news post from Neowin. This should be embarassing, coming from a "senior editor". Is it your first day using Windows?! Maybe it's time to find a new Windows news site.
    • It's from having Core Isolation enabled in Windows security settings, which is a good thing!  It's letting you know it's not loading the Bonjour module as it's not signed in a way it would prefer. Bonjour was most likely installed along with iTunes. Feel free to disable that message using the checkbox.
    • I'm looking forward to starting over online. I have no reason to keep all the money, cars, rank after 13 years. Now if I can just move my character itself and nothing else. I would be fine with that. But I doubt they would do a setup that way.
