Ill give ya a warning before i show ya..if youve got an ati card youre better off in D3D..but anyway.

go to your ut2004\system folder and open up the UT2004.ini file with notepad and do this...

look for this area:

[Engine.Engine]

RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice

;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice

;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice

;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice

and change it to:

[Engine.Engine]

;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice

;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice

;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice

RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice

and youre in opengl.

then when you select opengl, there could be a warning messege.

also directx9 rendered could be implemented

they did have a d3d9drv.dll with the 3204 patch. if you installed that before 3236 youll still have it but if you didnt you wont becuase they took it out of the 3236 one. if there was much difference between the regular d3d and the d3d9 driver i dont know.

Opengl rocks. I wonder why almost every game now uses d3d when opengl increases considerably the performance. I play for example Q3 arena perfectly with an s3 pci 32mb card. And a few years back games used to have in game selection for opengl and d3d?I wonder why that has changed?Maybe to make people buy video cards every year or what:blink:ink:

the game was written in D3D, but they but open GL in there for Linux and Mac. Some may see some performance imporvements, more then likely the nvidia users, but they dont recommend you doing this if you can use D3D, but if you are running linux or mac, its all you can do.

I recently acquired an msi geforce fx 5900 ultra 256mb video card so I could to play unreal 2003 (runs on d3d needless to say) in full drive (I love the game and I must play it fully), but despite the power of the card what I got was a normal 79.4 fps (going down on more detailed and pushy parts of the game) in a resolution of 1280*1024. Ok that?s playable, however with the same card on Q3 ? high quality (open gl) I got a sta311.2 fps in 1280*1024. So what you say about that?

ur sayin a 9200 is bad i jus recently upgraded from a geforce 2 mx which ran cs an ut2k4 jus fine wit no problems whatsoever jus had to oc a bit an lower the res to 800x600 but other than that i thought it was a great card better then the fx5200

its all u need to run unreal tournament, because the 9200 is a DX8 card, and the 5200 is a DX9 card, while UT2k4 is a DX8 game
