How good is your antivirus?

Question

Since most would like to argue bout what is the best antivirus. I decided to open this thread solely for testing your preferred antivirus. This is a compilation of a group of hackers.

*************WARNING*************

THIS IS NOT FOR THE SCAREDY CATS. THERE ARE ALL VALID VIRUSES. DO NOT OPEN THEM OR EXTRACT THEM TO ANY LOCATION. SAFEST METHOD TO TEST YOUR ANTIVIRUS IS TO SCAN THE COMPRESSED FILE. I WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR YOUR ACTION.

Here's a link to download an archive file containing the viruses. READ THE WARNING BELOW BEFORE CLICKING HERE

TEST THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK

If you dare to take this challenge, do post the screenshots of the antivirus in action and please do not use any Photoshoping skills to manipulate the results.

Try to post at least the following information for others to evaluate

1) Program/scan engine version (Exm NAV 2004, AVG 6 Paid Version, SAV 9.0.0.338 and etc)

2) Any settings you changed

3) Screenshots (Optional as proof)

EDIT: Contrary to the filename which tells you 455 viruses, no it is not. Actual total is 593. If your antivirus detected them all, well done.

Now here's Panda. Notice that of all antivirus applications, Panda was the only one that didn't even let me open the file. When I right-clicked on the file to choose "Scan with Panda Antivirus" it automatically screamed at me and that was the end of that. It killed the file!!!!.

Seems to me Panda is not as bad as some people might think. Take a look.

AVG didn't do too bad. It did let you download the file suggesting it doesn't scan in compressed files in the background, mind you i'm using the free version.

But 556 Viruses detected, way more than that norton :p.

AVG is the best :D

Hi All,

I use Symantec Antivirus 9.0 Corp Version. It's superb. I wasn't able to find a single virus on my pc. It doesn't allow a virus to be saved to disk, if it can't be healed. :) If it detects a virus it's automatically quarantined.

It even detects those .html pages from websites that has serials and so forth. I used to use Norton AV 2004 and surfed those sites regular and Norton didn't detect it, not one time.

Well I use NAV2003 and Trend Micro Internet Security (formally PC-Cillin) and they both have keep my machines free from any virus :D ...with the exception of blaster, as I got infected as I was downloading the latest definitions  ..but other then that nothing else, they are both worth every cent in my humble opinion

Yes but for some people earlier in the thread, some virus scanners, even Symantec Norton Antivirus, woudn't even let them download the file.

You know whats not funny? When one of those infected children with their infected computers come to a LAN party and infect everyone elses computers on the network. Its not hard to keep your computer clean; safe browsing, stay off the P2P networks, and know your sources. Thats all I do, and I havent had a virus for years.

    • After enabling it in about:config, customize, density, compact; the toolbar/address bar gets smaller vertically. I enabled Nova, I notice the tab bar/title bar is a bit larger vertically now? Everything always becomes a waste of space.
