LOC Veteran Posted June 29, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 29, 2004 Just found this little jewel, it's rather nice I must admit. Warning to anyone that's going to try it, it uses <evil>JAVA</evil> so if you hate Java, don't complain I didn't tell you ahead of time. It's available for Windows AND Linux (Mac version coming soon apparently) and offers the following features: Universal Instant Messaging, Video Conferencing, File Transfer, Voice Chat, Group Text Chat and File Sharing along with premium services (which are free during the beta test) such as Qnext Photo, QnextMyPC. They are working on more services also, no listing as to what they are. To warn you, the system requirements are rather high for this, being on Java and a beta. So if your on a slow PC, don't try it without knowing: Pentium III 500 MHz 128 MB RAM 40 MB Hard Disk Space Windows 9x, Windows 2000, Windows XP It has secured encrypted file transfer, which I know alot of people are into these days as the next big thing coming, I haven't tried it yet obviously. For more information on the app and other such nice stuff head on over here if you decide to download and give it a try, my nick on the Qnext network is LOC (wow, imagine that one eh?) Remember, I'm just giving people who may be interested in this type of app a head's up. I see "where can I get an all in one IM app?" and "what p2p is the best?" threads all the time, so I thought I'd let you people know about this new one I found. If you want screenshots of the app, let me know and I'll take some. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/183988-qnext/ Share on other sites

trigger_my_passion
Files are sent using a secure, encrypted P2P connection directly to the other user. Receiving a file requires the Qnext user to accept and initiate the transfer. Am I right in my understanding that this is exactly like how file transfers work in mIRC meaning, if I am behind a firewall and so is my friend, we can't send files to each other using this, unless one of us opens the needed port(s)? Edit: Never mind, got the answer @ http://www.qnext.com/supp_faq.html#f6 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/183988-qnext/#findComment-2408407 Share on other sites

MonikaJones
I installed it. So far everything is OK. Besides internet connections are becoming faster and faster, I doubt if anyone is using a modem connection. Hey LOC, why I am seeing you constantly offline in Qnext. I've added you as a friend, but...... Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/183988-qnext/#findComment-2514319 Share on other sites
