I have had my Xbox for a little over 2 years, and I am quite happy with it. It is brand new (repair) and I was wondering what the advantages/diadvantages of modding my Xbox are.

I have Xbox live and I still want to be able to play that. (don't tell me xbc)

I heard that you can rip games to your hard drive, so you dont need disks.

Any other things I can do/can't do with a modded Xbox?

Is it worth it?

Should I just buy another Xbox and mod that one instead?

Should I leave the Xbox the way it is?

I have two XBoxes, both modded at the present with "cheapmods" (Aladdin Advance Live to be specific), and I suggest modding yours. These chips make it possible to have larger hard drives, access to all homebrew games, apps, and dashboards, etc. The best part is the boot process... if I tap the power button it loads the XBox as if it wasn't modded (when the large hard drive is "locked"), which allows me to play on Live as if nothing has been done. And if I hold the power button for 2 seconds, it'll boot to EvoX which allows me the homebrew options as well as access to games saved directly on my hard drive. If the hard drive is not locked, you'll need to consistently boot with the chip on to use the box however. The only drawback is for Live you need the original game cd/dvd, as the chip must be disabled to play on Live hence you can't use games stored on the HD or backups to play, and this is where XLink Kia comes in. As stated here, lots of great reading on those sites, especially XBox-Scene. That's my 2 cents :)

I order two as mentioned, and shipped overnight they came to $84 CAN, but since you're in the Greater TO area, you could probably pick them up yourself if the arrangements have been made. Installation for these is relatively easy, the D0 point being the most difficult (but this applies for all XBox mods). There are better mods out there but for basic needs these chips do everything you want. I recommend them to all my customers (mod chip installation service). If you're not confident to do it yourself, the company also has this type of service. Any more questions feel free to ask, I'll answer what I can.

OR...

The Aladdin Advance Live for $30.99 (free ground shipping) & install yourself (4-18 wires)

as I mentioned, the D0 point is the hardest to get, but it took me 5 minutes to get it right on my first install (using a multimeter). On average, my installs take roughly an hour and I charge minimal $75 per install (depends on the price of the chip + shipping).

Check out www.gocybershop.ca for the Greater TO dealer I mentioned, or www.divineo.com for another Canadian based supplier. I use GCS personally as they supply the chips (again, my Aladdin Advance Live chips) pre-flashed with EvoX M7 +EF Bios on the chip, not sure about everywhere else. If there is no bios on the chip you might end up with a headache, hehe.

    • Weekend PC Game Deals: Anno 117, Final Fantasy VII, Rematch, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Weekend PC Game Deals is where the hottest gaming deals from all over the internet are gathered into one place every week for your consumption. So kick back, relax, and hold on to your wallets. The Epic Games Store's mystery giveaways may have ended, but its regular freebies didn't miss a step this week. The double drop was for copies of Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King. Speed Freeks lands for multiplayer racing fans, but with plenty of competitive shooting elements too. You will be piloting Ork buggies, tanks, and aircraft modeled after the popular tabletop miniatures while trying to complete objectives and pass finish lines. Next, Ouroboros King is a crossover between chess and tactical roguelikes, offering the chance to create your own army with special rules to beat incoming foes on the board. The double giveaway on the Epic Games Store will be available until June 11, and replacing it will be Citizen Sleeper and ROBOBEAT. The Humble Store brought a new charity bundle to check out this week too. Landing with the name The Complete Inkle Library, this is a large collection of interactive narrative puzzle games from the publisher Inkle. This begins with Heaven's Vault, four parts from the Sorcery series, 80 Days, Overboard, and Pendragon: Narrative Tactics within the starting tier for $9. Hopping up a step to the $12 tier gets you TR-49, Expelled, and A Highland Song for paying at least $12. If you go for the $20 tier, you get four e-books from the Heaven's Vault series. The bundle has almost three weeks on its counter before it goes away. • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
