forum
I have had my Xbox for a little over 2 years, and I am quite happy with it. It is brand new (repair) and I was wondering what the advantages/diadvantages of modding my Xbox are. I have Xbox live and I still want to be able to play that. (don't tell me xbc) I heard that you can rip games to your hard drive, so you dont need disks. Any other things I can do/can't do with a modded Xbox? Is it worth it? Should I just buy another Xbox and mod that one instead? Should I leave the Xbox the way it is? +Nik Louch Subscriber² Posted June 29, 2004 Subscriber² Share Posted June 29, 2004 Get it done, get a bigger HD, ensure you get a switch fitted (for on/off modchip). CaPeRKiNG77
I have two XBoxes, both modded at the present with "cheapmods" (Aladdin Advance Live to be specific), and I suggest modding yours. These chips make it possible to have larger hard drives, access to all homebrew games, apps, and dashboards, etc. The best part is the boot process... if I tap the power button it loads the XBox as if it wasn't modded (when the large hard drive is "locked"), which allows me to play on Live as if nothing has been done. And if I hold the power button for 2 seconds, it'll boot to EvoX which allows me the homebrew options as well as access to games saved directly on my hard drive. If the hard drive is not locked, you'll need to consistently boot with the chip on to use the box however. The only drawback is for Live you need the original game cd/dvd, as the chip must be disabled to play on Live hence you can't use games stored on the HD or backups to play, and this is where XLink Kia comes in. As stated here, lots of great reading on those sites, especially XBox-Scene. That's my 2 cents :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184028-should-i-get-a-modchip/#findComment-2383696 Share on other sites
forum
Is it expensive? Is it hard to install? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184028-should-i-get-a-modchip/#findComment-2383808 Share on other sites

CaPeRKiNG77
I order two as mentioned, and shipped overnight they came to $84 CAN, but since you're in the Greater TO area, you could probably pick them up yourself if the arrangements have been made. Installation for these is relatively easy, the D0 point being the most difficult (but this applies for all XBox mods). There are better mods out there but for basic needs these chips do everything you want. I recommend them to all my customers (mod chip installation service). If you're not confident to do it yourself, the company also has this type of service. Any more questions feel free to ask, I'll answer what I can. forum
So I can get the chip for $60 - $70, and install it myself, or I can pay extra and get someone to install it for me. How much is it for someone to do it for me? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184028-should-i-get-a-modchip/#findComment-2383946 Share on other sites
forster
depends how cheap they are, depends on the retailer - check xboxscenes forum to see if there is one in your area. CaPeRKiNG77
Check out www.gocybershop.ca for the Greater TO dealer I mentioned, or www.divineo.com for another Canadian based supplier. I use GCS personally as they supply the chips (again, my Aladdin Advance Live chips) pre-flashed with EvoX M7 +EF Bios on the chip, not sure about everywhere else. If there is no bios on the chip you might end up with a headache, hehe.
