Zetter
Looks great, I will definatly use it if it's out before XP sp2, good work! *Feture request (already): could you make the option to add an extra folder to the cd? That would be eaiser than editing the ISO to add in extra stuff (though I can't remember how much space there is left after XP and SP2 is put together). paratrupr
Zetter, That was my suggestion, as far as shrinking the iso by deleting non-essential XP folders like DOC, SUPPORT, LANG, etc. to allow the addition of custom folders to be added (ie $OEM$). It would be nice to incorporate these things before building the .iso image. I don't think they are looking to have Autostreamer do these types of things. Dee
So this is just a GUI for slipstreaming service packs? Seems like a lot of work just to let people avoid the command line... :p I'm going to have to jump on the bandwagon and throw my vote in for adding unattended install features. (Y) Don't get me wrong it's a decent app for the command line novice, I just hope it grows into a tool for the professional tinkerers as well. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184212-autostreamer/page/2/#findComment-2424384 Share on other sites
SteelTrepid
Just for the "avoiding the command line"?? Don't you also have to extract the boot loader from the Windows installation CD?? Don't you have to install other (not free) software to do that? Do you have to have burning software that allows you to add that loader to your CD?? So....instead of having to install additional software, and have to buy Nero (which I'm sorry is the only software I've found that allows you to add a loader) you can use this. This save people many steps and installations. I'm pretty sure that SlipXP is supposed to do the tasks you ask for anyways. We are not competing with SlipXP. This is just supposed to be a simple tool I asked Raptor for help with so that people that are using my project can easily create an XP CD with SP1 or SP2 included. He also added the features so that people with 2000 or 2k3 can use this also. He was nice enough to take this project up for me and I greatly appreciate it!! :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184212-autostreamer/page/2/#findComment-2425952 Share on other sites

As for Nero being the "only software that allows you to add a loader" even Roxio's EasyCD Creator will do that... Again, I hope that some features make it into this software so it's useful to more than the novice user. SteelTrepid
Well my project isn't about this new side project "AutoStreamer." I asked Raptor for help about this type of software and he decided to help me out and create it. I would really prefer it to stay simple. I am trying to help people with my project and want to empower them to play with their PC's more so they learn more about them. No my project isn't aimed at Newbies but I know that a lot will check it out and I want to provide them the tools they need. I think this simple tool will help them build confidence that they can do something complicated (to them) and will help them want to do more on their computers. I really do not feel like fighting in the forum so I will just leave it at this. Dee
Don't want to sound stupid but.... what's AutoStreamer ? In a nutshell it's a software program that Raptor is working on that will slipstream (or merge, if you will) a Windows Service Pack into a Windows installation CD. When finished it outputs a file that you can run through your CD burner software to create a bootable CD that contains the Windows installation merged with the service pack. The CD will allow you to install Windows with the service pack already installed which saves quite a bit of time when you create or rebuild a computer. soldier1st
will it be able to not prompt for a cd key? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184212-autostreamer/page/2/#findComment-2436495 Share on other sites
SilentKnight
I would say that would depend on the cd you used. If it had a winnt.sif file with the key already provided I would say it will probably copy that file as well and the cd will work as the previous did and not prompt for a key. spidoinkel
very good idea indeed, you should rush to get a beta or alpha out before sp2 is released as ill certainly be needing it come rtm day ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184212-autostreamer/page/2/#findComment-2438535 Share on other sites
SteelTrepid
I've already slipstreamed SP2 RC2 with a beta version of AutoStreamer and the system is doing fine. I haven't had the chance to play with everything but it seems to be running good. AutoStreamer is very stable and the several beta's I've tested in the past few weeks have been very good. I think it's getting really close to 1.0 being released and ready for everyone to download. akaladis Veteran Posted July 7, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted July 7, 2004 well - right now all winxp SP2 builds (i suspect even the final one) are recognized as Pre-SP2... but that has no downside on functionality... same goes for win2k3 SP1... I have the final version and using my restore cd that came with my PC. Is this why it didnt work ? Can you not use a restore cd ? Is there something i need to do differently ?
