Lady Chaotic
Blindfolded makes no difference whatsoever. As a pianist myself I know that you look at the music, never at the keyboard. I can see how this video might impress the general public, and im not trying to sound pompous but to a seasoned musician its not all that hot. 2393112 Actually, most of the songs he played he had created sheet music for himself and some he played by ear. Originally these songs were created using computers, so it wasn't even ment to be played with a piano. I'd say, even without the blind fold, that is rather impressive.  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184693-blindfolded-mario-pianist/page/2/#findComment-584970600 Share on other sites

I've been going piano for 12 years now and I konw for a fact that it is not hard. I could do a 20 minute piece blindfolded. It's not hard..... ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184693-blindfolded-mario-pianist/page/2/#findComment-584970632 Share on other sites
Blackima
Heh, that same guy later on recorded himself playing that same song, blindfolded and with his back to the piano... (must get sick of that tune after a while) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184693-blindfolded-mario-pianist/page/2/#findComment-584970677 Share on other sites

fuel925
just a follow up on my previous post, the only time a pianist should look at the keys is when hes actually learning a piece, and figuring out fingerings etc. Once the person is confident enough to play the piece throughout while following the music, they shouldnt be looking at the keys (very little at least). Once you have worked enough at a particular piece, and it is ingrained into your long term memory, you should be able to not play it for 10 years, go back to it, and play it fine with a blindfold, standing on your head or whatever. Pianists learn to KNOW where the keys actually are, they dont need to look :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184693-blindfolded-mario-pianist/page/2/#findComment-584970781 Share on other sites
dL
Um actually blindfold does make a difference. I am a pianist for 12 years. I finished my grade 1-10 piano with all theories. Unless you practice your ass out, you will hit the note wrong sooner or later. Yes, I could tell he practiced a lot! But being blindfolded is different than looking at the piece of music, because your eyes sees a bit more than just the music. You see your hand approx. position on the piano too. dL Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184693-blindfolded-mario-pianist/page/2/#findComment-584970820 Share on other sites
TheLegendOfMart
Dont care for him playing it, but the tune is so nostalgic. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/184693-blindfolded-mario-pianist/page/2/#findComment-584970855 Share on other sites

fuel925
Unless you practice your ass out584970820 Exactly. Practise really does make perfect. Sometimes when we have a powercut here and im stuck for something to do ill go play on the piano. My piano is in a room in the middle of the house, it has no windows, therefore during a powercut it is COMPLETELY dark. I still manage to play my perfected pieces perfectly even though I cant see a thing. If you practise a piece enough, the key positions along with the notes, dynamics etc will become engraved into your memory, and you no longer need vision to play. Lanky
Yea, im not amazed. I play the guitar but imagine it would be the same for piano, once youve got a peice down, I can play without looking easy. Its more impressive that he spent the time to learn it, though it dosn't exactly look like the hardest song.
