Great app, jon. I hope you haven't messed it up a lot. :D

I'd love it if it sits in the status bar near my start menu (Thanks to the Longhorn clock by Rcube :D). When I click this button, this window you showed would pop up to show the latest details and another click of the status bar button would bring it back down.

Yes i am taking all of these ideas into consideration -- of course, it will be minimized to system tray and display msn-like toasts when you receive PM or suchlike...

Looiking for more ideas, which I am continually integrating to the app...

seems pointless and stupid. i cannot rationalize using an external application to check private message's. why and how would ones private message usage become so massive. the need for implementing volume controlling and immediate access? instant messengers and email are to slow?

Hey, c'mon, try to make it yourself...

Note: I know, how is it, to program, cuz I program in C++, C, Visual Basic, Visual Basic .NET and C# .NET!

Try to write every action/function/exception yourself, than you can talk about something like "pointless" and "stupid". But if you can program, please, talk / write your comment smarter.

I like how this application is designed, I like the idea, but it's not designed for my type of use... You understand?

PS.: Private Messages are useful, if you didn't realiziate it... But it's up to you, your opinion.

Nice application, I would take a look on it... :)

someone, somewhere will use this. PMs are useful, and you get them fairly often if you are a (very) active member around here.

i do not know why you needed to verbally attack me. i do not know why you commented on assumptions from my text instead of what is stated.

again why is harassment necessary? you have quoted me yet your comment has nothing to do with what i said.

it most certainly does...

you said: i cannot rationalize using an external application to check private message's

i said: PMs are useful, and you get them fairly often if you are a (very) active member around here.

furthermore, there was absolutely no harassment in my comment. The "-1, Troll" was followed by a  , implying a joke.

think before you post.

Could I just point out two things:

1) This is ALPHA software - just because all it can do is check for PMs at the moment doesn't mean I'm not going to integrate great new features in the future - I intend to

2) You may be interested to know that I am incorporating some of this code into other Neowin projects such as AeroBrowser and Neowinmessenger for new PM detection and automated login detection respectively

3) Please don't make comments about the lack of functionality of this application - admittedly, all it can do is check PMs at the moment which may not be needed by everyone right now, though I am in the process of adding new features...

1)oh oh oh, maybe you can make it go on neowin and go on the forums, and check pms too, and be able to post replies and all that. maybe it can work with other sites too. ya that would be cool.

oh, wait, nevermind, there is an app that does that already. its called firefox.

2)cant say i dont like that. this alone makes the whole app worthwhile. really good idea.

3)there is a lack of functionality in this application. :p

Can we add a feature that when a moderator bans you, your computer deletes everything on your hard drive?

lmfao... HAHA

That would be pretty cool..... but imagine it, so many people without blown up computers,

I can imagine keldyn and dazzla there counting how many "frags" they got on neowin today

    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary in AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update but that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
    • ALL versions or ALL SUPPORTED versions? Neowin does it again.
    • But the reality is it will work for people's needs, and they don't care about the technology that makes it. Clearly not everyone's needs, but that low end space where personal laptops were only used to type emails, watch content and browse websites, but they didn't want to do that on a small screen device. Heck, writing that out I can now see the connection and reason it'll do so well. Apple is about experience. If the experience is bad, they don't release it. Low end Windows laptop manufacturers up until this point have not taken that into consideration ever before, so slow laggy usage with brittle slimey plastic shells were common. I hope that the low end space at least creates better physical products that last a bit longer, and if Microsoft get their act together, they could also have a solid OS on such low end hardware that would actually make the experience work for what the hardware was intended for. The fact that the CPU is a "cellphone", sorry mobile phone processor is irrelevant. It's about the experience, and so far, that sounds quite solid.
    • Hello, Bonjour is Apple's implementation of a multicast-DNS service, which allows devices running Apple's software and/or hardware to find each other on your local network.  I believe the Windows version was last updated around 2010. If you do not need it, you can stop and disable the Bonjour service in the Services Control Manager (filename: SERVICES.MSC).  Once you have done that, the operating system will no longer attempt to load the service.
