Clearly 'Emily' has ripped off the msstyles version of this theme.

I don't see the big fuss about posting links to the real version, it's out there for people to google, if people want it enough, they will find it.

Frogboy, it's disallowed because it's non-official release but some beta-testers leaked it which Neowin can't accept this terms and said no Royale for download in Neowin forum. I guess it's admin's mistaken for misunderstanding about rule in MSStyle forum. Many mods said no theme is allowed if it still contains Royale related resources so WB is not right to release in neowin too. If it is, I will release mine as msstyle containing Royale resources (with little mod), OK?

Have you ever looked at a WindowBlinds skin?

First off, .msstyles files already start with 2 strikes against them because they're ultimately derivatives of the Luna.msstyles (StyleBuilder, for instance, appears to just be a resource hacker -- it just replaces bitmap resources in luna.msstyles and change the name). .msstyles files still contain Microsoft's copyright and digital signature (no longer valid since the checksum is different but it demonstrates the source of the original file).

Secondly, the Royale.msstyles file is actually a system file taken and redistributed. It's no different than taking say the Tivo-like application in Media Center and posting it on the net.

Is the Royale WindowBlinds skin a port of the Royale .msstyles? Maybe. But it's not the same file. Given the number of Apple MacOS X visual styles here on Neowin I can't see the argument against a WindowBlinds rendition of Royale. IF Microsoft asks us to remove it, then absolutely. But we've heard nothing from Microsoft on the matter.

But that is one of the advantages of using a third party format. .msstyles belongs to Microsoft. They have generously not objected to third parties making their own .msstyles files at this point. But it does mean that Microsoft has the right to block ANY .msstyles file out there they choose to at any time. Apparently Microsoft does not want the Royale .msstyles out there.

If you want to come up with your very own skin format or use another non-Microsoft skin format then go for it. But as long as you're choosing to use Microsoft's skin format, you have to follow Microsoft's rules.

Actually, I'm going to argue that they are completely different. There is a big difference between, what I would consider art and software. However, I do agree that it is just as wrong to download the .msstyle file as it is wrong to download an application.

Here is a better simile: Downloading the Royale.msstyle file is like stealing a copy of a Van Gogh painting.

I downloaded it. It is good except for a few things like the startbutton. Besides that no different then the msstyle version (none of wb extra features are in use).

nope, same here. the theme has quite a few issues. has far too many rough edges for me to use it on a constant basis

There is a big difference between distributing Microsoft's actual file and a skin that resembles the contents of that file.

:rofl: The reason it resembles Royale is because it was imported with skinstudio. It's a rip no matter what kind of bs spin you put on it.

You can't post a msstyle bc that is releasing resources that are copyrighted by Microsoft. But Apple or Microsoft could ask these themes to stoping being distributed and they would have to.

The issue some members have is this, the mods have said no one can post a vs that even resembles Royale but here in the windowblinds forum a mod has posted a link to download Royal in windowblinds format. The problem I see is that this windowblinds skin is a direct rip of Royale, it was imported from the original msstyle and it uses direct copies of the images. It just seems like a double standard which is why some members are complaining. :)

I just don't how other sites (getskinned, flex-beta, etc) have the Royale download linked straight off their home page but for some reason Neowin has a problem with it. :huh:

I bet MS is just laughing at the whole thing anyway: "Yeah, we spent 15 minutes in Photoshop to "Mac"-ize Luna and now people are acting like they discovered gold by downloading something called 'Royale'." :p

Same reason people who have absolutely no idea what they are doing want to download and install leaked alpha or beta version of new operating systems etc - they think they are 'getting over' on Microsoft. Have fun suckers! Why not look through the forum (or wincustomize or any number of other sites) and download truly original and good looking visual styles or WB skins.

Never said that that made sense. Also if people wanna go the route that this shouldn't be allowed then niether should mac ports. The world is full of double standards.

I just purchased ObjectDock Plus and have installed. I can't seem to get TAB DOCKS to work. Don't see at all where there are tabs like in the screenshots. Where exactly do you enable this? Do yourequire a special 'tabbed theme' in order for tabs to appear?

I'm a little confused. The default load up of ObjectDock includes a tabbed dock.
