XP user password recovery

OK, I have been seeing people with this problem, they can't get logged into their system, they use the password and username they have always used but can't get logged in.

My question is, how do you recover the password or reset the password for these people.

can you login as admin at least?

yeah, if you can log in as admin, you can change the other passwords.

get to the login screen and press ctrl + alt + del twice, then log in as admin (if you didn't set the password during installation, it will be blank).

Use Safe mode to get into the system and change the password.

google for offline nt password bootdisk - no quotes, just all those words. you'll find an image that's written to a 3.5" floppy that'll let you change/clear anyone's password. fun times.

and i don't want any flack about this being "hacking" or "security circumvention." some day you'll end up locked out of your account too and you'll use the same thing.

Actually the built in account isn't admin, it is Administrator

Whew, you almost scared me with that bootdisk until I read that it destroys all the data if used on an encrypted disk. Encrypted NTFS disks cannot be gotten into without a valid password.
