Well it could be a few different things. One being your DNS could be messed up. Another more likely thing you could try is in Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings make sure you AREN'T using a proxy server and uncheck it.

Another could simply be spyware that's directing to a now dead site.

ok what is DNS??? i did do the internet options thing when calling the cable company, that is one of the things they told me to do. also there is one thing that comes up when running spybot.. know anything about DSO exploit?? someone found a fix for it but it didnt do a thing, so it is still there. I have looked for ways to fix that and am having no luck.

DNS is the Domain Name Server.

It is the server that takes your "www.yahoo.com", and turns it into 216.109.127.29. (Y)

Your ISP should take care of this for you. It will generally be automatic if you use DHCP, and will need to be manually set if you have a static IP.

Thanks, and it is DHCP... so it should be set itself right? How can i find out if it is set automaticly or not?

Try pinging by name or by IP...

Look at the Network Control Panel...

If you have a router, I believe that the DNS will be set t your router's internal LAN IP address. You can query your router for the WAN info to get the DNS server IP addresses from there.

I wonder if it is just your HTTP traffic or all the connection together. Which version Of windows are you using? Is it XP, ME or 98?

Here are a few things you can try.

Next time the connection drops, open a command prompt (DOS) and try to ping yahoo.com (Let us know if you need help to do this)

If the ping is succesful then we have an http problem. Then it is most likely spyware or a Virus.

For spyware you can download AD-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. (You can get those two software for free from www.download.com)

For Virus you can go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com and run the Free Web-Based Anti-Virus.

If you can't ping you probably have a major problem with the TCP/IP Stack or the Cable modem might be broken.

Tell us which version of Windows you are running and scan for spyware and get back to us

Have fun!!!

Hmm i found the problem.. its IE

Try firefox :ninja:

44 posts, and you are wasting them on this drivel?

I am a Firefox supporter, and I use 0% IE. However, if this person prefers IE, or has a need to use IE, then I feel everyone is better served by trying to help.

Plus, she already tried an alternate browser, and it did the same thing.

I think your cable company is dicking around with you, sounds like you have a weak upstream signal and an intermitt connection issue I would call them and ask what your signal strength is on the upstream and downstream and the SNR. They might need to do a line sweep in your area..

    • Support? You mean the support that microsoft's phone lines now just direct you to their website to look for a non-existent solution to Office problems (like all the ones they've been introducing to Outlook Classic), and hangs up on you? Don't think anyone would miss such mediocre "support"...
    • Unbelievably good deal sees this AMD Ryzen Windows 11 Lenovo laptop selling for just $266 by Sayan Sen While desktops are generally more powerful, laptops can be quite handy as they offer portability while also providing about 70-80% of the performance of a similar-priced desktop. If you are in the market shopping for one, then Lenovo is offering one with AMD's Ryzen 8-core APU at a low price of just $266 (purchase link down below). The discounted model we are specifically talking about here is the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ALC6., It is a 15.6-inch notebook powered by the AMD Ryzen 5700U APU, built on an 8-core 16-thread Zen 2 CPU and Vega 8 integrated graphics. The device has plenty of memory too, as it packs 12 GB of DDR4-3200 memory where 4 Gigs are soldered while the remaining 8 GB SODIMM is upgradable. Since the memory configuration is asymmetrical, the laptop likely supports flex mode and thus 8 out of 12 GB should be running in dual channel mode while the remaining 4 is in single channel mode. The laptop has a 512 GB M.2 2242 SSD for storage. Get it at the link below: Lenovo 2023 Ideapad 15.6 Inch FHD Touchscreen, 12GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, Windows 11 Home: $265.70 (Shipped and Sold by Amazon US) You may notice the poor reviews for this laptop on Amazon but that is apparently due to a possibly fraudulent seller. This Amazon deal is US-specific and not available in other regions unless specified. If you don't like it or want to look at more options, check out the Amazon US deals page here. • This is obviously the most buggy web browser.
    • Uhm, why the preferential treatment for 1Password instead of simply providing an API for all password managers to plug into? I ditched 1Password for Enpass soon as Agilebits began forcing their cloud sh*t into 1Password. Have no reason to switch from the 100% locally-hosted Enpass...
