250GB HD shows as 127GB

Well, basicly my Main drive shows as a 127GB, it's a Western Digital 250GB.

I've installed SP1, and i've enabled some 48bit data mode something something

( Can't remember, just enabled it. I was advised to ) What do i have to do?

Don't tell me i have to re-format or anything :cry:

Check the drive manager in Windows. Does it say 127 GB there too?

If its a westerd digital drive, the utility has you restart once, then i think it makes a change to the registry, then you restart again.

Right click, click Install. Reboot. Worked for me.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS on your mobo...

try and use partition magic to see if the drive comes up as with about 120GB unformatted space, if it does, format just that part and then merge the partitions.

Okay guys, installed PartitionMagic. And it seems like i've got unallocated space, 107GB to be exact.

When i try to merge them, it says it may not be bootable after :|

Whats the exact procedure to do this ?

Do you have to have it as one partition, if you dont mind 2 partitions on the drive just make an extended partition with the unallocated space...

Did you try axious' suggestion? The 127GB limit is a common problem, and usually the LBA48 fixes it.

And i want the drive as ONE partition.

just make sure you have the newest bios for your mobo,delete both partitions, create ONE partition and install the system again, if possible.

Well when you install the data lifeguard tools, it should recognize the issue and take steps to change the registry to allow the partition to be over 120 gb.

Your motherboard (or hard drive controller) has to support that size first.

Do you have Service Pack 1 installed? I have heard that with Windows XP, you should have that installed and there is a fix for that limitation.

No i haven't tried SP2, since SP2 won't work on my PC

( Current SP2 releases don't support the Danish Windows )

I have had this problem,

It was a 120Gb hdd, the comp looked at it as it was a 20GB hdd.

SO i took it back and the peeps said they forgot to put in a disc into the hdd.

So i got a replacement. I would take it back and have it checked if none of the software resolutions work.

my 180 used to show only 127 now it shows 167 as it should. download that file install it and restart n it really works.
