Your Mac Hardware Setup

Yeah it's an amazing design and the screen is crystal clear. I take it you bought the 20" model? It's hard to tell from the photos alone.

Yeah it's the 20", i decided to save my money to get something else (a guitar, the one above my iMac).

Kerm: Get yourself Aperture and CS3 :)

It's the DG834N and yes, very good, awesome speeds and reliable. Network consisting of 2 macs and 1 PC. It's passed the new 2.0 draft i think, so that's good.

Jordan: Haven't had time to do much with it, been busy all day. My MBP is still going to be main computer, the iMac is more of a computer i can teach my mum so she doesn't have to rely on the PC we have which is very unreliable. Also to keep intouch with me when i go to China for 6 months (iChat) and when i head off to uni.

Yea, fair do's I understand what you mean and its a good decision because you can do video and audio cheaper than phone calls :p

Well good news im ordering my 20" 2.4GHz iMac on friday so ye should get it within 2 weeks :)

@beautiful.blood, If i'm not mistaken and my memory is good enough i think it was called FREDERIK or something like that, anyways it was a super popular desk but for some reason IKEA, discontinued it,a lthough you may still find some in some stores.... In my nearest one Birtsall, Leeds they have a few left still.

Ah might as well add these:

Hey, weren't you the guy that was very anti-iPod not so long ago and wrote a glowing review of the Zen Vision:M? Why did you decide to get the classic? Is it a lot better than the Zen?

Creative, iRiver are a lot better than any iPod i've owned. I simply got one because i use a Mac and none of those brands can sync with my music as simple as an iPod. Other brands require plug ins and even then, its not as straight forward and simple. I don't have the time to mess about with that stuff.

To think I only got my first mac in January ;D

Pictured is 2 750GB externals, Mac Mini G4, Airport Extreme, 20" Dell, 24" iMac 2.16GHz 1.5GB, Macbook Pro 2.2GHz 2GB w/ 8600M GT.

Edit: Photo taken with a K800i, hence the poor quality.

    • It depends on how technical of an answer you want. Does it stop manufacture drivers? Yes, the universal driver is the only thing that interfaces with the printer hardware. However, print support apps (PSAs) are the new way to provide that functionality you speak of, and they integrate directly into the print dialog box, so the user doesn't see any difference at all. This is nothing new...this has been the preferred way to do print drivers for almost 8 years! The only thing changing here is that the older printer model drivers of the past are being deprecated. I highly suspect that you yourself have installed a print support app described as a driver package from the manufacture's support page, had it work exactly as expected, without realizing it was using the universal IPP driver under the covers. For example, USB keyboards have all used the generic HID driver for just about as long as they have existed, but that doesn't stop manufacture "drivers" from enabling more features.

    • Wow..... 1.8GB of RAM usage. That's just a bit more than MS Teams or VS Code uses.
    • its slower than ever. especially on mobile ios. really poor app. Slack is a million times better. shame the company i work for moved from Slack to teams few years back. was like moving from 2026 to windows ME.
    • Manufacturers will be able to ship printer-specific functions through their support apps (their companion software, in other words). But no, drivers won't be needed from them anymore, only the universal one included with Windows. Think about this as printers all agreeing to a stardandized API for common functions, all talking the same language and supporting the most common functionality via that API, so only a single driver is needed to talk to them. Any additional functionality not handled by that driver will be provided by the companion software for the printer.
