i`ve just changed my hard drive in my old ibm pc. for some reason it only recognises my hard drive as an 8gb when it is really 20gb. has win98se a program that`ll fix this?

just let bios detect the hds for you, i think its f4 or sumfin...depends on the bios.

In addition to the BIOS settings (try "Auto" if it is available), I would be curious if this was somehow partitioned into several logical drives, and only one is formatted. That will cause it to appear as only one, smaller drive.

If you can, get to DOS and do an fdisk on it and see what it has to report about your drive paritions.

8 meg is the limit of some bios'.

The drive manufacturer should have a tool (drive overrlay) that will allow your system to see the whole drive.

You can also see if there is an update to your bios.

Anyway, try a BIOS update. OTOH you have an IBM, which sucks.

It might have unallocated space or be formatted to the old FAT16. Format it to FAT32 ot try fdisk or some other partition manager, see what you get.

Get an updated BIOS firmware...if thats not available then your screwed cuz your BIOS is too old to recognize it. I had the same problem with my Compaq Prolinea 575...I tried installing a 10GB drive but it only detect 8 GB.
