You can't use multi-format tags when you change your name in the Messenger Options window. Messenger Plus! has a /nick command which properly handles mutli-format tags. To change your name and, optionally, put some colors in it, use the /nick command in any chat window. Example: /nick (!FC6)Patchou. See below for more information.
