First things first - head over to windows update and get yourself up to date with IE6 SP1 (Y)

You may find that there are a bunch of other updates to get too, install them and see how it goes (Y)

uhm i have adaware, hijackthis, spybot s&d, gunbound, starcraft, counterstrike, msn messenger, adobe photoshop. thats about it i guess.

i uninstalled norton AV. still

i wondered if PINF in the regedit was apart of windows XP because i had a virus and it told me to delete that so i did :s the virus is gone now.

No, that's a virus you get from Kazaa etc...

It could be that it has broken some things that the antivirus could not fix, check here http://housecall.trendmicro.com to see if it has really gone.

It's most likely a reference to an item in the context (right-click) menu that is no longer on your system. When right clicking explorer follows the reference to the empty file and then crashes. Google for ShellExView (free program) and use it to disable all shell extensions that aren't Microsoft. Even if you know what they belong too. Just disable everything not by Microsoft and try right clicking some more and you should be ok. Then if you want you can go through and enable the others one at a time, but I wouldn't do so for a few days so you can be sure you took care of the problem.

Close all other programs and IE windows, then have Hijackthis fix these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft DirectX] PDSched.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update Machine] Linux.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update] msconfg.exe

reboot.

suggestion: update your OS and install an AV program. :)
