Optical output for the GameCube?

Is there something like an optical cable and hdtv output cable for the CG like the ones for the xbox? I'd been looking around for it and didnt find it. :cry:

I'll love to play FFCC and SW:Rebel Strike on my hdtv and 5.1 sound system. thanks! :yes:

Does your GC have two ports on the back? One called analogue and the other called digital? My Platinum GC has the digital port and I can buy a cable to connect to a HDTV with a three cable composite to get Progressive scan support in some games. Unfortunately, the GC only supports Dolby Pro Logic II, not true digital.

Yeah. No optical audio out and it looks like the models produced after May 2004 have the Digital/component video out removed to save on costs and apparently it was not used much by their customers.

I'm glad I got a slightly older model.

yeap, mine is jet black model DOL 001 and it has the digital port... its a shame no optical output or cables for it cuz SW: Rebel Strike support Dolby Prologic II on 7.1, it'll sound fantastic with digital sound insted of analog.

Yep its unfortunate about the HDTV, xbox is the only comsole that supports High deff stuff atm. If you get your cube on the prologic 2 it will sound great, hell of lot better than normal :)

Yep. PLIIx is really nice (the version used in REbel Strike, the x means it supports the subwoofer too - that wasn't part of the original PLII)

It's unfortunate the GameCube sound chip was designed in that time period before digital surround was possible, but everyone wanted surround sound in gaming. And without DVD playback including a digital sound output would have been crazy, in hindsight you'd kick yourself for not doing it now since we know the PS2 can do DTS in software :(

Hopefully Nintendo will be more supportive with the Revolution. They say they removed the digital port because it wasn't used much, that's just ignorant. It wasn't used, because they didn't even make the cords to use that connection readily available. They are only available from Nintendo themselves.
