Actually, you can use Run As to perferm administrative tasks or the other way around. Describe what sort of tasks that you need to do so we can help you figure out the way around this :)

How to enable Fast User Switching in Windows Server 2003 ?

You really really can't - I read the assembler once to determine this (part of my job) - took about two full weeks. All necessary code for FUS is in 2k3 - it's just not enabled because of ONE bit in the registry - the bit that tells the OS to act as a server rather than a workstation. And it is neither legal nor possible to flip that bit.

you can actually RDP to localhost and run concurrent sessions through a single terminal anyway.

btw, if you had read the post stuck to the top of the forum that reads 'READ THIS BEFORE POSTING', you'd see that 2k3 doesn't have fast user switching.

FUS in w2k3 - it's actually in there, but the Terminal Services (and winlogon.exe and a few more files as I remember it) actually checks if the OS runs as a server, and if so, it makes FUS unavailable, and other stuff available. And with good reason, because the Terminal Services have to behave quite differently to provide FUS.

you can enalbe Fast User Switching in Windows 2003 Server.

You'll need the Win2003 Optimizer Tool (free program) from http://www.sala.pri.ee/2k3optimize.htm

It's just an exe file, no need to install the program. Under "Other", you'll see "Enable Fast User Switching" feature. good luck.

    • It sometimes comes down to leadership. Where Panos Panay was more about new features and strageic ads, the new lead for Windows seems to be more about fixing performance and consistency along with moving more components to the new settings app. Also for the first time, the Xbox team is allowed to play under the hood and tweaking the OS for what could be a Game Ready Edition. I like the new direction but it was a longer than expected journey.
