Alright guys I have a solution! its very unusual but it "should" :p work. Because everyone has a different physical link to the locations of My Computer, My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, and Settings, we needed to find a way to use windows to address those locations. Unfortunately, flash was having trouble doing it, so let us remove flash from the picture. Everyone's location of the html file of the desktop is in the same location : %windir%/resources/themes/Free Style/FreeStyler Desktop - within this folder in the same location as the html file will be 5 folders (for the 5 links), the flash will link to these 5 folders. These folders will be constructed in the manner of name.{reghexcode} and packaged as such. When it is unzipped windows will automatically rename those 5 folders to be special instances of My Computer, My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, and Settings, indifferent from the original copies. So when clicking on one of those links in the HTML file it will link to those folders within the theme's folder and should open perfectly. Since I can't edit your flash copy Osiris, try this on for size:

Step 1: In flash link Internet Explorer button to %windir%/resources/themes/freestyle/IE.{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}

Step 2: create a folder in freestyle folder and name it IE.{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}

Step 3: Open up the desktop background and click on the Flash link.

HOPE THIS WORKS!!!!

the link will work its just my damn htaccess wont allow it coming from other domains, im not near an ftp client so i cant fix it right now, but if you copy the link above, then goto http://www.ibetas.net, then once that loads, paste the address into the address bar, and it will work :)

Hope it works. I'd been suggesting using the folder UID's for a few posts now and didn't think anyone had taken notice lol.

In theory it does... ( Finally figured out wht was going on!)

However I have tried it myself unfortunately it appears that the flash thinks of it as a file or bad link and is unable to open it.. I tried it a couple of times using the regcodes but to no avail..

Hopefully it is opnly my computer that is doing this and is not a problem with flash.

Step 1: In flash link Internet Explorer button to %windir%/resources/themes/freestyle/IE.{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}

Step 2: create a folder in freestyle folder and name it IE.{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}

Step 3: Open up the desktop background and click on the Flash link.

unforutaaaanitly this does not work

The way JoGro123 has described is the only way to do it using Flash on an HTML page, at least that has been validated to a degree. The problem occurs in that the folder UID's or reg codes are actually calls to the Explorer executable, and thus not actual URL's or addresses that can be opened in a browser or folder. They work fine if entered in at the Run dialog box or as shortcuts, but not as a direct URL/href.

However if a form of Visual Basic, as in VBScript, can be used the then problem could be easily solved. I had pointed out previously a method using the scripting in Flash, however as I don't have Flash or know how to use it I am unable to test it out. The VB procedure is simply, Shell(Folder UID, vbNormalFocus), or something to that effect, it's been awhile since I've had to use it.

I'm sure however that this problem has been approached on a Flash oriented site somewhere, as I have found one example already that goes towards achieving the goal, I will keep looking if needed.

scoll up and read my post from earlier jesterzwild I explain i already have the vbs script working and everything thanks to outrigged

___________

Dim oShell

Set oShell = WScript.CreateObject ("WScript.shell")

oShell.run "internetexplorer"

Set oShell = Nothing

____________

We need a java file based on the carachteristic i state above

Okay people we seem to be doing alot of Backlogging with information here, so let me clear the air.

1. We have the Javascript already, the problem is implementing the Java in conjuction with the flash menus.

2.The folder UIDS do work, I tested them today it goes to the folder fine with no prompt for a download.

Now if your folder UIDS arent working, so using the method of making a folder then namingit with the registry code etc, if your doing that and its not working when you link to it, the problem is...........

HTML doesnt recognise windows explorer commands such as %Windir% or %UserName%. IE will not recognise them as valid paths. To specify it directy and boom it will work. The My Computer etc all work for me now using that method.

Secondly I think I can remove the buttons from the background without making it look to bad, then reimplement them in HTML with no Flash this people will be able to use the Javascript with the VBS and have fully customisable links.

So far ive used the folder UIDS to open My Computer and Control panel so there sweet now the two hard ones seeminlgy are accomplished. However the My Documents in another story.

Ie tried implementing it through the Folder UIDS, however to no avail yet. If anyone has sucessfully gotten the My Documents UID to work let me know.

Again another theory with the my documents was to use %UserName% method to get to the persons my documents, because each persons username is different, however that doesnt work as I mentioned before since IE doesnt recognise Explorer shortcut commands such as %UserName%

So basically if we can overcome this little hurdle when on the home run. If not looks like well be taking a step back till I edit the whole thing again without Flash in it.

Yes thats cool... I'm not sure why but I'm still gettig the same problem I have been for the past 3 days we'll have to see. I think if we continue this Osiris, maybe you should tell us the security settings you have on your computer and wht settings are in your IE internet options.

They are the default settings, I havent adjusted them in the slightest. K420 has said he too gets a requsest for a prompt but I dont

I make the UID on say C:

then I open up Flash/Swish and go C:Whatever the UID

and boom all done, it works fine no hastles.

But im also trying the java with flash again so eitherway one way or another something will turn out.

Well in summing up heres our options people.

1. the folder UIDS work if you can fin the UID code for My Documents well be set, because My Computer and Control Panel work.

2.I can edit it all and make it all in html with mouseover effects and all without flash, and without flash I can use the Javascript which allows for a vaster customisation. Mind you for the average user this will be more pesky but at least in the end you can set your own links.

    • Microsoft admits one of the most crucial Outlook features is currently broken by Sayan Sen Microsoft is making some decent progress when it comes to Windows 11. Recently we have confirmed reports of some rather useful improvements landing in the next version of the OS, 26H2, wherein GPU driver TDR crashes may finally be fixed, plus the company is also allowing users to disable web content on the Search. On the Outlook front though things have not been so rosy. Last month in May we reported several problems affecting basic functionalities on the app. These included a problem where documents would open blank or corrupt themselves. Following that, Quick Steps, a very useful feature, would no longer work correctly, and finally, Microsoft acknowledged a problem wherein images would fail to load up properly inside the email. Microsoft had resolved those bugs later and almost exactly a month after we reported on them, the company has now admitted a new similarly basic issue, this time on Macs. Users recently started noticing that Outlook would no longer display email threads properly as the original message itself was not displayed. An affected user Tsoumpas, C (ngmb) nicely described the problem in a forum post they made on Microsoft's site. They wrote: "Description of the issue: After updating Outlook for Mac [Version 16.110 (26061317)] on 18/6/2026, replying to any email no longer includes the original message in the reply window. Prior to the update, replies correctly contained the original email text below my response. Expected behavior: The original message should be included in the reply, as in previous Outlook versions and according to the configured reply settings. Actual behavior: The reply window contains only a blank composition area (or only my response), with none of the original email text included." Obviously this must be a highly frustrating for users as noted by several in that thread. The post, at the time of writing, has also been upvoted by more than 40 users indicating that is a fairly widespread bug. Thankfully Microsoft seems to have acknowledged the problem right around that time as it opened a new issue on its official website. In the support article, the company recommends switching to Outlook for Mac from the legacy app, where the problem appears to be happening.
