gregstar05
hello. Im using a program called WinXP Manager and it allows you to back up your XP activation. Does that mean, if I back it up, wipe xp and install xp again and just use the back up activation, i wont have to activate it? It sounds pretty silly to me considering u could just activate it anywayz lol...but oh well. There is also an back up option of Office XP? since when did that have to be activated? lol Office 2003 doesnt have that, does it? Herby
You can also do that manually by backup wpa.dbl and wpa.bak located in X\windows\system32. :D For Office apply the same rules as for Windows; it will work only if your hardware does not change significantly. Office 2000: write down the code you are given, it's not date-stamped and you can reactivate using the same code. (Office XP/2003 codes are date stamped and won't work for a later installation) Office XP: backup data.dat & Office 2003: backup opa11.dat, both files are stored in X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data. (if you can't see the Office\Data folder, you need to show hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View) Edited August 3, 2004 by Herby Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/198241-back-up-xp-activation/#findComment-584288710 Share on other sites

Genesi
Hmm, what does it mean if we don't have a wap.dbl file located within the windiws\system32 folder? DOH! nevermind found them. They just didn't come up in search. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/198241-back-up-xp-activation/#findComment-584319417 Share on other sites
KzR
The backup file only works if your hardware config stays the same. If it changes, you'll need to contact M$ for a new activation key. ramian
instead of getting a program like the WinXP Manager, is there a small app which allows easy backing up and restoring of the XP Activation?
