She is still learning PhotoShop. Is there anything else to use to cutout photos?

oh they were made by your wife, see, i totally mis read that part. In paintshop pro 9 Beta, available from jasc website, it includes a VERY handy and accurate background eraser, mix that with the soften tool and a bit of shadows to make the selection near perfect :p hard to explain, frankly i cant pull it off correctly, but theres one way
