Best Digital Camera Around

I'm sorry I have posted 2 other threads about a Kodak & Canon camera. I was all set to get the Canon PowerShot A80, Except this morning i checked Ebuyer.com and found that it had gone up in price from ?201 to ?250. Plus the A80 has been discontinued & will probably be replaced shortly, so probably not the best buy.

I currently have a Minolta Dimage E223 2 Mega Pixel. Good camera for basic stuff, But after 2 weeks in Scotland I took over 800 Images (1GB) and id say about 10 out of 800 came out good & worth saving. The camera just doesnt have the capabilty for high quality images & the crips sharp focus wasnt there. All I got was washed out sceanary with fuzzy landscapes.

Im looking for a good camera with full manual controls, Exposure, Focus, Aperature Size, ISO, White Balance & all the other manual things. But I also want it to be good for 'Point & Shoot' when you don't have time to set-up the shot manually.

The camera will mainly be used for Absract Portraiture pictures & other bits and bobs. I'd like to get into photograpy more & the above camera I own now will not cut it.I have around ?300-?330 to spend.

Please suggest some good cameras please as the choice is overwelming me & making me go cra:wacko:cko:

I'm not sure of the conversion rate, but I just got my sister an Olympus 540 3.2 Megapixel for her borthday and the thing is pretty damn amazing. The detail of the pictures is awesome. It retails for $199 US.

The Canon A85 is for ?195 inc.VAT & P&P it's very good there are other's but they are heavy priced

I recently got myself an HP Photosmart 935. List is $300. I got it refurbished and on sale at $177. :-D I also got an accidental damage warranty in case I drop it on a sidewalk, that cost an extra $30 to make $207. :-D

Turns out the refurbished 935s never were returned; HP just wanted to get rid of them because they have a new model, the R505. The R505 IMO looks cheaper (quality, not price). The only advantage is on camera editing, but I edit on the computer. :-D

The 935 has 5.3 MP (5.0 effective MP), a 3x optical zoom, a 7x digital zoom (digital zoom is dumb though), and a really good user interface.

The 935 has all the manual controls (ISO speed, white balance, apeture priority, etc.) as well as modes like Action, Portrait, and Landscape that bias the apeture, shutter speed, and other settings,

If you want an SLR-like camera, look at the HP Photosmart 945.

I have the Canon Powershot S50 which I got for around 350 US dollars. Now, they have the Powershot S60 which I'm sure falls under the 300 pound limit that you want. Have a look at it, the Powershot S series are great cameras.

I have a Nikon Coolpix 4300 in great condition. Has a memory card and battery charger. Retails for 400. I just got a new Nikon D1 and dont feel like doin the ebay thing. As far as we are aware, the A80 has pretty much been replaced by the new A85 - it has a larger (but not a swivelling) LCD screen, plastic body rather than metal, and is cheaper. If you are looking at around ?300-350, however, you really are in the next price bracket up with regards to quality. Sony's new W-1 at ?299.99 boasts a 5 million pixel resolution, a huge 2.5 inch screen, manual exposure modes, metal body, and it's also very compact. The Olympus C-765 at ?329.99 offers 4 million pixels but has a 10x (38-380mm) optical zoom lens and, again, manual exposure controls.If you're not overly concerned with the manual exposure modes or fitting filters to the camera, Minolta's G600 is only ?279.99 and has a stunning 6 million pixel resolution (and the image quality really is outstanding from this camera). It does have a manual exposure mode, but it is not as readily accessible as the modes on the aforementioned cameras.

simply amazing...

Optical Zoom is amazing on this thing.

Price is around $375...or converted, 205[Crossed L, pounds] (i dont feel like browsing around the charmap)

This thing is VERY light.

It fits in my hand its so small.

The zoom mechanism is quiet.

It comes with a neckstrap...its nothing amazing, but it is better than nothing.

It comes with a plastic lens clap that clips onto the lens.

It comes with a 16MB XD card, which is pretty bad...itll only hold like 11 4.28MP pictures. I upgraded to a 256MB card.

I havent really tested battery life, as i havent run it more than an hour at most.

What is really nice is that it allows you to take pictures in a 3:2 resolution so that they would fit perfectly on a 6"x4" print out.
