error renaming file or folder

Ok. I have these partially downloaded .avi files.

They are big in size.

When I try to move them to another folder, or rename them, I get this message: error renaming file or folder

I have rebooted and tried manually Ending programs I wasnt sure of.

Still, no success.

Oddly, sometimes I can delete a character or two from the name, and it works, but no total change in the name is allowed.

try to rename the folder that the .avi files are in...after that you should be fine.

It does the same thing when I try to rename the folder.

Some kind of file sharing app having control of it? I dont have any running....

Did you try to boot into DOS and 'move' or 'rename' it?

Have you enabled this preview-pane on the left? I read that you should wait a few seconds (minutes?) after clicking on the file and windows will release the file handle.

First turn off the preview pane in Folder Options Control Panel. If still no-go try safe mode, if it still gives you a hard time then boot to the recovery console and rename it. If it doesn't work then well run a chkdsk or something because somethings screwed up.
