Doom 3 Screensaver

Recommended Posts

ok im going to repackage the original soon with a different program and as clarification it wasnt spyware airw0lf it was just connecting to the net when a screensaver shouldnt have to. No one was able to find out what it was sending and recieving or why it needed to as far as i know. Im also wondering for 1.1 do we want scan lines, static to happen randomly, or a plain screen were the text fades in and out (so everything is "moving" to prevent burn in on older monitors).

A last idea i had was to have some static then a scan line passes once and the monitor then seems fine and no more scan lines then later it repeats.

ok only 3 replys so far but they go with the choice i liked so for now the next version will have the static and the scan lines

oh and it will have a new program to get away from the old one which everyone hated since it connected to the net for some reason.

Hey everyone, I just saw this linked from the [H]ard|Forums. I made this same screensaver a couple days ago. You can get it here. Let me know what you think! :)

http://www.crazy-vincent.com/files/uac_screensaver.zip

good effort. but i dont see scan lines. probably it does soemthing as it stutters but no noticeable scan lines...

Yeah....hey. I use a dual monitor setup and this screen saver only shows on one of my monitors. The other just shows the desktop. I noticed some one else complain about this but I never read a resolution to this issue. Just thought I'd let you know it's a big that needs fixxed.

The scanlines are there but they are very faint... only 3% opacity. I tried to get the colors to match those in the game as closely as possible. As for the dual monitor problem, a friend of mine noticed the same thing, I think it's a problem with the SWF2SCR program. I'd try to fix it but I don't have a dually setup to test on, sorry.

vincentj7: would you mind showing me/telling me or providing me with a small fla of how you did the scanlines? Seems im having trouble getting them to the quality you did. I also wouldnt mind knowing how you did the gradient on the words station locked. Im going to pm you with this so i can get a quick reply :)

I noticed a few complaints about dual monitor setups. I cant say this is going to fix it but i do have a remedy. Use UltraMon and use its dual monitor screensaver options to set this screensaver again for the second monitor. You should then have the screensaver running on both monitors.

In my next version the issue with it connecting to the internet that should now be resolved I'm now using the industry standard screentime for flash program. Ive seen it used comericaly with screensavers for video games, movies, artist/musician's websites. So i dont think we have to worry any more about internet issues :D

I posted the source files here:

http://www.crazy-vincent.com/files/uac-source.zip

That includes descriptions for how I created the scanlines, plus the .FLA file, among other things. Maybe some of you with more ambition (and better flash skills) can add all those other features, like random static, etc.

-crazy vincent!

Version 1.2 is finally finished! :D Sorry for the wait everyone.Get it here!

mirrors would be appreciated. Just post your mirror in the thread when you have one up plz :)

no more internet problems with the screensaver, I switched programs.

changelog:

v1.2

cleaned up station locked text a bit.

added scan lines (thanks to crazy vincent).

switched to "screentime for flash" so theres no more worries about it connecting to the internet.

Q: I'm still thinking about having "station locked" fade in and out. is that still a good idea to add on top of what we already have or would that be to much "activity". I guess now its more of an asthetical "want" than a "need" now since we have the scanlines to prevent the burn in on the older monitors atm there is activity on 100% of the screen so thats a non issue  What do you guys think?

Oh and you guys can give me suggestions, if you would like, of what i can do next with it.

Great work divertom15! I was thinking maybe you could do something that replicates a power fluctuation...or maybe some kind of static or something where the logo & text fade in/out. Oh oh, or maybe some kind of dripping blood effect. LOL, I've been playing this game to long!

divertom, I will have a Flash file to give you to convert into a screen-saver by the end of the week hopefully. What version of Flash do you need the file to be?

I have already converted the main UAC logo into 3D using the program Swift that I PM'd you about.

Now it is just a matter of animating it spinning, the main outside piece and inside piece are going to spin in the opposite directions, which I have actually already started. I also may do a cool camera animation as well... then I have some ideas with playing around with some other stuff. ;)

I attached a screen of the Work In Progress, just ignore the color I am just using it for now as a reference, it will definitely change, but for now you can see the 2 objects in mid spin outlined in red...

    • The GEEKOM A8 mini PC is 20% off (lower than Prime Day pricing) plus Huge Storewide Sale by Steven Parker GEEKOM is back with a deal on a variant of its A8 Mini PC powered by AMD's Ryzen 7 8945HS, which came out in 2024 with a TDP of just 45W, with a base clock of 3.8 GHz and a Turbo Boost of 4.9 GHz; although we never reviewed this variant, we did check out the Ryzen 9 version. As a reminder of what you get, below are the specifications for this Mini PC. GEEKOM A8 Dimensions 112.4 mm x 112.4 mm x 37 mm Weight 450g CPU Ryzen 7 8745HS (8 cores, 16 threads, 16MB L3 cache, 3.8 - 4.9 GHz, TDP: 45 W) cTDP: 35-54W (Default 45W) Graphics AMD Radeon™ 780M Graphics 12 RDNA 3 Graphics Cores 2700MHz 768 shading units / stream processors (12 CUs), 48 texture mapping units, and 32 ROPs NPU XDNA architecture (Up to 16 NPU TOPS) Memory 16GB Dual-channel Crucial DDR5-5600MT/s SODIMM (up to 64GB) Storage 1TB NVMe M.2 (PCIe Gen 4.0 x4) Operating System Windows 11 Pro Bluetooth Bluetooth v5.2 Wireless LAN Wi-Fi 6E Kensington Lock No SD Card reader Yes (left side) Adapter 120W, 6.32A, 19V Power Adapter Front I/O Ports 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A 1 x 3.5mm front stereo headset jack Rear I/O Ports 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A 1 x USB 4 Gen 3 Type-C with Power delivery up to 15W (5V 3A) 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A 2 x HDMI 2.0b 1 x 2.5G RJ45 LAN 1 x DC-in Deal Price $519 (buying links below) GEEKOM has two configurations of the A8, with the only difference being the slightly less-powerful Ryzen 7 CPU with half the storage (1TB) and DDR5 memory (16GB). This knocks $350 off the price compared to the $999 Ryzen 9 configuration. In both instances, a Windows 11 Pro license is also pre-loaded. As I said previously, this appears to be an update on the A7 with the only difference being the newer CPU. The packaging has changed quite a bit from the A7. Instead of dark colors, now the box is completely white, and the foam cushion has been replaced by a cardboard mould that the A8 sits in, above a small envelope that contains a thank you card and booklet that has guidance on all of the controls, how to access the A8 to swap out the SSD or memory, and safety information in several European languages. Upon removing the cardboard mould, you can find another cardboard compartment that contains the power lead, HDMI cable, VESA plate, and a bag of screws. What’s In The Box 1 x A8 Mini PC 1 x Power Adapter 1 x HDMI Cable 1 x VESA plate and bag of screws 1 x Envelope with booklet and Thank you card Unlike the A7, the VESA mount option is back with the A8.
