Preload CS:Source early!

yea, to recieve the free copy of HL2 you had to do the thing on the website, the it asks you to, print it out, send off the voucher, the bit on your G Card box with serial number n stuff of the card.

Oh right. You're going to get a boxed copy of the game, but you aren't going to get CSS or a subscription to the Premier Pack like the people who decided to enter the key into Steam instead.

CSS will ship with HL2, but not be the multiplayer. It will also be avaliable seperately.

nah thats giving in to valve, there ######... make us wait for ages then force people to buy cz to get css just because it was a flop
Or, from an optimistic view, they limited the beta (it's only a beta! :)) to the 1/8th size and arguably more mature CZ community. IMO, they should have limited it further to those who bought CZ before the beta announcement.

Guys it doesnt matter if you download it....only cyber cafes can play because the only accounts that have access are cyber accounts with new cd keys pre registered at valves end.

so you have to have a cyber cafe login for steam....lucky for me I run a cyber cafe, I got 10 login's in the post yesterday! :)

It would of been nice if they had pre-loaded to Ati bundle Customers, I,ll guess that altho it helped ship a few cards its also not nearly as huge a group as will be hitting the servers once the dload is public.

But heck I,ll wait im stil playing Doom III on veteran, so for now i,ll wait and on the 18th i,ll smile knowing that my 9600xt 256mb is not only powering my sys but has given me hl2 / cs:s :D

My HL2 is preordered since August 4th, 2003. Do you think they'd even consider inviting these preorders?

Not if it's preordered by a group unasociated with Valve. To be fair they'd have to include everyone, and that would be impossible with the sheer number of different stores people preordered from.

    • Too soon, I'm still not over this death!
    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary in AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update but that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
    • ALL versions or ALL SUPPORTED versions? Neowin does it again.
    • But the reality is it will work for people's needs, and they don't care about the technology that makes it. Clearly not everyone's needs, but that low end space where personal laptops were only used to type emails, watch content and browse websites, but they didn't want to do that on a small screen device. Heck, writing that out I can now see the connection and reason it'll do so well. Apple is about experience. If the experience is bad, they don't release it. Low end Windows laptop manufacturers up until this point have not taken that into consideration ever before, so slow laggy usage with brittle slimey plastic shells were common. I hope that the low end space at least creates better physical products that last a bit longer, and if Microsoft get their act together, they could also have a solid OS on such low end hardware that would actually make the experience work for what the hardware was intended for. The fact that the CPU is a "cellphone", sorry mobile phone processor is irrelevant. It's about the experience, and so far, that sounds quite solid.
