Preload CS:Source early!

So I've got it....working. But I can't connect to any servers. I tried adding the ones listed by ivan300 to my favorites, but they didn't show up. It did work if I set up a dedicated server and then connected to it. But this was on the same comp and it ran pretty crappy. :)

I didn't use the update file. Just cssource_notcracked_beta and cssource_cracked. Thats all. I can only connect to v2 servers... for now. When I used the cssource_updates file I was able to connect to v3 servers but it didn't work properly. My CS:S would crash to the desktop after 2-15 seconds of playing. :hmmm:

----------Part 1: Getting Files In Place

1) Get the files "cssource_cracked_emporio.rar" and "cssource_notcracked_beta_emporiooma.rar"

2) Extract "cssource_notcracked_beta_emporiooma.rar" into c:\anywhere

3) Extract "cssource_cracked_emporio.rar" into same place you extracted "cssource_notcracked_beta_emporiooma.rar" (overwrite files when asked)

----------Part 2: The Blob File

1) Go into your steam directory and delete the file "ClientRegistry.blob". (Make sure steam is off)

2) Now, turn steam on. Then logon to your account, after you've logged in, exit steam by rightclicking steam icon, and selecting "EXIT" not "EXIT and Logout". (there's a risk where you might get banned for cracking cs:s, so don't blame me if you do, and i have heard of it happening)

3) So now turn steam back on, after it has fully exited. Then leave it on.

4) Go back to your steam directory and copy that "ClientRegistry.blob" file you deleted in 'step 1'.

5) Paste it into where you extracted your 'cssource_blahblah.rar' files and overwrite any file if asked.

----------Part 3: Modifying Steamapp.cfg

1) Open up "Steamapp.cfg" that is located where you extracted your 'cssource_blahblah.rar' files.

2) Look for the text "SteamAppId=###" and change the number in ### to 10. SteamAppId=10 <-that is how it will look

3) Look for #SteamInstallPath="x:\some_directory" and change the directory to where you extracted the "cssource" files.

4) Look for "[email protected]" and change the email to the one you used to logon in 'Part 2' of this help file.

5) Should Look like this.

SteamAppId=10 <-- if you get an error about being not subscribed, change it to 5

#SteamAppVersionId=0

#SteamInstallPath="C:\Your_cssource_directory\"

# [as is clearified later on, this should be your email address:]

#[email protected] <-don't change

SteamAppUser=your_logon_account <--not your email, but the account name you use to logon to steam

6. Save the file.

----------Part 4: The Shorcut

1) Make a shorcut to the hl2.exe file in where you extracted your "cssource_blahblah.rar" files.

2) Right-click that shortcut and click properties.

3) Click on the "Shortcut" tab, and add "-steam -game cstrike -console" at the end of the target line minus the quotes.

4) Should look like this ( "c:\cssource_directory\hl2.exe" -steam -game cstrike -console ).

To play, leave your steam on, logged on the same account you used for the "steamapp.cfg" file, and run the shortcut.

If any Errors Might occur, Read this TroubleShooting Guide. http://www.mydoor.org/download/Troubleshooting.txt

    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
