AutoPatcher XP 4.6 (August '04 Release) Info

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just wanted to update you on what will be most likely the last Pre-SP2 AutoPatcher release.

I have finished compiling it, and the first Alpha is getting ready to be tested. I am testing it myself on a VMWare install right now, so once I approve it, the other testers will get it.

The file sizes are as follows (this is subject to change):

Full Size:? 275 MB

Update Size:? 34.7 MB

Lite Size:? 209 MB

UltraLite Size:? 97.7 MB

The current version4.6.23, for those of you wondering... and yes, it does have a different look/feel from the 4.5 builds.

I'm expecting final probably Wed or Thurs (remember, I have uploading to do)... also, the website (autopatcher.com) will be finally updated as well (been so busy I never got around to it).

I'll post the contents and change logs shortly... a quick list of files added since the last release:

Microsoft Autoplay Repair Wizard

Q823353 - Cumulative security update for Outlook Express

Q867801 - Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer

Q839643 - Vulnerability in DirectPlay could allow denial of service

Q839645 - A vulnerability in Windows Shell could allow remote code execution

Q840315 - Vulnerability in HTML Help could allow code execution

Q841873 - A vulnerability in Task Scheduler could allow code execution

And here's a list of things that were updated to newer versions (or fixed):

DirectX 9.0c

MSN Messenger 6.2.0137

Messenger Plus 3.01.94

IE Spy AD

Google Toolbar

Sun Java 1.4.2_05

Tweakomatic Shortcut

Classic Start Menu Tweak

Hope this gives everyone something to smile about... I want to apologize for taking so long with this release, I've spent most of my free time job hunting since my move, so I had to put the AP on the back burner.

I do have one question for you all... would you like to see the current version of AutoStreamer included in the AutoPatcher XP Full release? I was thinking of adding it, but I figured I'd ask you all what you think:) :)

Give me a holler about uploading as well Flish. Planning on a rebuild of the FTP server soon as the backup of some files finish. That will hopefully be done sometime today. Shouldn't take more than a couple of hours for the build tho.

Sweetness, will do. I just want to finish my "dry run" on my VMWare install first. ;)

Wait, so you'll be making a July release this month for SP1 users.... how about SP2 users? :D

When Raptor gets back, maybe... will be an Aug or Sept update, though. ;) Need him to play with the code, SP2 doesn't like AP as much after build 2162. It runs, just has errors.

Hey Flish,

Just wanted to say that I used AutoStreamer last night for the first time after getting SP2 and I was as impressed with it as I was with when I used APXP for the first time. Tell Raptor and whomever else that worked on it that they did a fantastic job. I would really love to see it included with the next APXP release.

Also, I noticed on one of the other treads that someone suggested an "APXP Extras" (or something to that effect) which would include all the additional stuff besides the usual patches & updates, mainly since SP2 came out with a lot of the same stuff anyway. If this is possible to do then I would like to cast my vote for it as well. Although I haven't tried it, can you do this with APXP anyway & just uncheck the updates & patches? I did a clean install last night so I'll probably test it out tonight.

Later.

NM2K24

Let me know when you have an SP-2 update ready, I wouldn't mind hosting it on Shareaza for you, maybe on my local ftp server as well. Going to be about a week before I have the server back up though, doing updates on everything on it this week. Including installing SP-2 on it. I'll have the full RTM download there as well. Will post the link when it's up and running to the website.

I'll even post a link that is accessable through Shareaza for downloading on the Gnutella network.

I too would be interested, (as mentioned in another thread,) in having a post SP-2 release that only includes the Xtra's such as the ISORecorder, Powertoy's, etc. Since from what I have read on Microsoft's site, that their new patches will all have a "/integrate" function built into it, that should make any future updates to SP-2 really easy to apply. And should make Windows XP even easier to update in the future.

<cough>DB editor? </cough>

-E-

Not an official one... I need someone who knows XML and VB6 to help code one (any takers? ;)).

EDIT - Quick update, testing will begin tomorrow... had some minor problems with the Lite Edition, and then ended up having to help Maple cook dinner (we had Penne Con Tonno e Mozzerella and Gnocchi di Spinaci e Ricotta... all from scratch. Burnt my finger good frying the Gnocchi...:(). So, I'll work that all out tonight and tomorrow. (Y)

There seems to be a weird glitch in APXP. I'm making the AP2000 DB. It installs 50 items by default. And it says it should take less than a minute to install

Dude, seriously, message me on MSN, I can help with ALL of that.

Did you mean MSN Messenger 6.2.0137 and not MSN Messenger 6.2.013? Thanks and keep up the great work.

Yeah, my finger must have slipped and left it out. :pinch: Anyways, to let everyone know the status, I'm currently testing the newest release, and if approved, will go out to testers. It has a bit left, but I'll keep you posted. :)

Okay, the first test run went well, but turns out I forgot a couple updates! So, here's the new list o' additions:

Microsoft Autoplay Repair Wizard

Q823353 - Cumulative security update for Outlook Express

Q867801 - Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer

Q839643 - Vulnerability in DirectPlay could allow denial of service

Q839645 - A vulnerability in Windows Shell could allow remote code execution

Q840315 - Vulnerability in HTML Help could allow code execution

Q841873 - A vulnerability in Task Scheduler could allow code execution

Q842773 -? Update package for BITS 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1

Q870669 - Microsoft Data Access Components - Disable ADODB.Stream object from Internet Explorer

So, we're getting there!! :DD

EDIT - Okay, I believe I have the first update file ready for Beta Testers... when I get back from running a couple errands, I'll send it out. (Y))

I found one more hotfix 838989, it seems to be a USB2.0 update, I ripped it out of some Dell installers. I'll be on MSN so I can send it to you :)

BTW updates like 825116 and 839643 are not needed because DirectX 9.0c already has it included

Danke. (Y) I think I'll add that and make those changes and just upload the first beta tomorrow.

There were two Internet Explorer update releases in July.

KB867801 - end user Cumulative Patch for IE

KB871260 - corporate edition including additional hotfixes

Flish, I'd go for the second, not the first. I've deployed it to around 650 desktop PCs without any problems.

Phil
