Here it is, my custom Webview

Recommended Posts

April 19, 2002 - Server is back up... for now. :)

Update:

Got bored, so here's what came of it...

Provided as is. No support. Don't ask me anything about it.

There's a read me file inside, if you don't read it, your loss.

Grab it from my FTP:

ftp://65.26.147.68/

If you have any problems downloading, tell me. I've worked out the majority of bugs in my server, but there are still a few I'm guessing.

I did remove the icons. They weren't working right...

Heh, you've not seen anything yet. I'm learning so much about this ****. (Learning through reverse engineering, gotta love it.)

Hold on, give me a bit and I'll get another screenshot up of the latest improvements... ;)

This is the current incarnation (though not yet available for DL):

I've managed to get the extended file options into this one (created, accessed, owners, etc).

Though as I'm browsing around, I'm noticing some problems with other things. So that's why I've not yet released it.

Oh, for those of you having your system folders look like crap, don't worry, I've almost fixed that (just have to get rid of one tiny error).

What exactly does the webview do, anyway?

It all depends on what you code into it. It's actually 100% customizable. I'm just trying to stick to something that's easy to use and that people are familiar with.

But right now, mine does the following:

1. Displays extended file info for a file in any folder (instead of just system folders).

2. Provides quick links to system areas (this is still being improved upon).

3. Just makes it look nicer. Doesn't really take up much processor usage.

4. Provides a preview pane for images and other media (sound and movies). Though the thumbnail option does the previews just as well for images.

5. Like I said in 3, it's eye candy. And practically everyone on this board loves eyecandy. ;)

Future imrpovements to mine will hopefully be:

Full implementation of the custom webview (there are still certain folders it doesn't affect, but I'm working on it).

Better looking all-around. Skinable (just replace a few images and voila, a completely new look!). Now for the skinnable thing to happen, someone needs to set some default standards. And I think once this version is completed, those standards can be based off of it. (eh, it may or may not catch on, who knows...)

Panels that stay closed while navigating through diff folders... (still working on it)

More! More! ::teeters:: We've hacked XP to death. Now that I saw your previous screenshot (the full desktop with the logon hacked and such) i'm pondering going back to 2000 or dual booting just to hack it to peices. Keep up the good work and I expect a thread 5 miles long with all the hacks you've found. Maybe a website? (I'll be glad to host you for free, i've got 500MBs sitting around doing nothing, apache server and such).

Ya, i emailed the maker of this webview last night and this is what i got today

To make a short story long:

I'm in London for 2 weeks. FTP is down until I get home. Don't have a local copy of it. Sorry. If you wouldn't mind putting in a post telling everyone I'm off for a bit, that'd be very appreciated (I've got limited time on this machine here).

so then he will upload when he gets back

*cant wait*
