iPod sorting question

Recommended Posts

Ive also noticed this phenomenon with my ipod mini, there are track numbers within the mp3 but it just sorts into track/song name rather than number :(

I found a work around though by ditching itunes and using winamp with the ml_ipod plugin, its sometimes a bit flakey, but at least it copies the songs over to the ipod in the order i prefer rather than the order the ipod prefers :)

I believe you have to browse by album to get the right order.

Nope...

So I guess it depends on the order you copy over your songs. I think I sorted by name the first time I copied some tracks so that's how it ended up on my iPod. I'll have to redo those albums then.

Seems silly.

EDIT: Hmm, maybe not. It was just one album that was sorting by track name. It's weird because I copied over the album by m3u and they were in the proper order there... Still confused. :pinch:

Using EphPod and editing the tags with proper track numbers will solve your problem, then. It's what I have always used and it is far better than iTunes for organizing music on your ipod.

Will it update the tracks ONLY on my iPod? I don't want it screwing with my mp3's (ID3 tags) that are on my computer's hard drive.

EDIT: Okay, this tool is great. Thanks.

PS - I hate iTunes. It overwrote a lot of my ID3 tags which ****ES ME OFF!!

Okay this is really starting to **** me off.

I finally got everything working straight when I installed EphPod and fixed all the track numbers manually... but now my iPod doesn't want to work properly.

I press the buttons and it doesn't respond... the menu is up but I can't navigate anywhere. If I press the buttons randomly, the first song in my playlist will start to play but I can only pause it.

What the hell is this? I fork out 300 bucks for this thing and I expect it to work flawlessly. I've reset the damn thing twice now... does it need to be reset again?!

No im sure a format will fix it. But something similar happened to me when using different software at once for the iPod.

I've formatted it twice already. I'm sick of this!!

EDIT: Okay, this piece of crap is going back to the store. I've reset it and it's frozen at the language selection screen. GOODBYE IPOD!

Im sorry to state the obvious here, but complaining that this is Apple's fault is a mistatement. It's kind of obvious that if you use 3 or more programs to update an iPod, when you have no idea what you are doing, it's going to get messed up with all those programs rewriting the database. So don't complain about spending $300 and saying it's poor quality while using 3rd party programs.

What format are your ID3 tags in? Mine are in v2.2 and are working flawlessly in conjunction with my 20GB iPod. iTunes should not have messed the ID3 tags up unless you told it so.

EDIT: What brn2prgrm said was 100% correct. iTunes was designed for the iPod - nothing else was. A computer only does what you tell it to do.

Well I'm sorry but as a consumer, I have a right to complain about a shotty piece of hardware. It's not like I'm voiding any warranties by using third party software. This stuff is ridiculously unstable, and after reading other threads on other forums, I'm not the only one complaining.

And I never once said the quality is poor. The quality of the hardware is great, it's just the software end that needs a little work.

The software end is fine... if your IDv3 tags are correct.

My albums, are in their correct order, because the IDv3 tags are correctly set up. I don't have an iPod now but it's the same now as it was then... if I went to Albums, selected the album, they were all right there, in the correct order.

Thats because people haven't a clue what they are doing.

Some people just need a bit of patience to make things work

Right, I have no idea what I'm doing.

Well I've decided to give it another go. Suddenly the buttons decided to start working again. Oh well.

Here's what I would say Opio. Open up iTunes again and highlight all the songs in your library. Right-click on em and go to Convert ID3 Tags and update em to v2.4.

I guess so.

I was reluctant to touch any of my files because iTunes modifies the ID3 tags. I didn't want to do that because I have sfv's for all my albums. That's the reason I was using EphPod because it edited the files on the iPod itself, rather than the files on my computer. At this point though, I don't care and I'm just gonna grin and bare it.

(Y)

and then opio goes on to complain about the software

here's a hint, use the program that was made to work with your ipod.
