Car engine terminology

Just want to know what some of the stuff like: CSi, GLX, VXi ect. I'm pretty sure the 'I' means fuel injected.

depends on the manufacturer really, sometimes they have meanings others its sort of a model name. Your right about i meaning fuel injection. Take TDI for example means Turbo Diesel Injection. Another example of meaningless names a Vauxhall or ( Opel as its called in Europe ) Vectra LS TDI well its a Diesel but the LS well thats a mystery, it relates to the level of trim but as for what it really means only they know.

Well its the CSi I want to find out the meaning of. From a Toyota Camry.. yeah, go the family car!! So the 'C' could have something to do with twincam? My mates CA18DET, the 'D' stands for the dual overhead cam...

GTI Grand Touring Injected...

GL is Gran Luxe

GT is Gran Touring

I is tacked on for Injected

GTX was used instead of GTI on some models outside the US to mean an "extra sport" model...

GLX means something like Gran Luxe Sport

SLC means Sport Luxe Coupe...

Well my Camry is CSI, I agree with the Injected, but in no way, a Toyota Camry is a sport coupe.

I have a 2004 Dodge SRT-10 Viper i always wanted to know what the SRT means in the SRT-10 its like sports racing technology or something someone tell me its an awesome car its so pretty

the viper is not turbocharged and will never will be

CA18DET is an engine code, Nissan 1.8L (18), dual overhead cam (D), electronic fuel injection (E), turbo (T).

Camry CSi is just a model name, not an engine code. Although the "i" seems to stand for fuel injection. They came with 2.0L engines, went to 2.2L and the last CSi models came with a 2.2L or 3.0L 6cyl.

Thanks for that. I already knew about the CA18, we actually just finished putting it back together today after a complete rebuild.

I have the 2.2L CSi model for the Camry. No diff on it either :(.
