I understand perfectly well why you want to disable the Insert key.

Who needs it?? (Unless you're running any applications that uses the button...).

And the Caps Lock button...

Annoying!

Why?

Because if you accidentally hit one of them, you may not notice thAT YOU HAVE BEEN SCREAMING FOR A WHILE, or replainstead of, oh sorry... replacing text instead of inserting it...

What I'd like to see is a little app that disables the buttons of your choice, and lets you easily enable them when you need to use them.

configure,

I've uploaded a REG file that should disable the Insert key (by setting up a scancode map in the keyboard layout). After you've merged it into the Registry, you'll need to reboot.

Would have just pasted it here, but Neowin posts and long lines...

configure,

Hugging is allowed. Just no funny business with the hands, K?

timdorr,

This is one I typically use, as I've 'disabled' Caps Lock on PCs for years (my left pinky has a mind of its own).

One maps the Caps Lock to the Ctrl key, the other to Left Shift. I'm sure you can guess which is which. There are a few utility apps out there that handle this, but I like the geek factor of doing it solo. As for games, I assume if one doesn't override Windows' settings, it might have problems. Don't recall running into any though (how many make use of the Caps Lock?).

BTW, if anyone wants to know more about scan code mapping for the keyboard, you might want to start with this Microsoft Dev page:
