:: Lyon ::
My kind boss in the office just gave me a 2x 512 Mb DDR PC3200 RAM :) I have a 512 DDR PC2700 at home. Should I: a) put the new 2x 512 Mb ram and remove the old one, getting a 1 Gb RAM with PC3200 speed b) put all of them, having a 1.5 Gb of RAM (BUT different brand, and I know the CPU will not utilize the PC3200 but instead downgrading to PC2700 speed) So, should you get more memory but less speed? or a 1 Gb with good speed Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/206635-which-memory-should-i-put/ Share on other sites
Hypoxiaicon
Well. if your processors is a 133MHz FSB the PC2700 is fine. you might aswell plop the PC3200 and get 1.5GB If you got a 200MHZ fsb then drop the PC2700 and only use the PC3200 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/206635-which-memory-should-i-put/#findComment-584401531 Share on other sites
RadishTM Veteran Posted August 21, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 21, 2004 I'd just go with the 1gb PC3200 and take out the PC2700 stick. If you know you are going to use 1.5gb of RAM, leave it on. Radish? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/206635-which-memory-should-i-put/#findComment-584401532 Share on other sites
iller
I would say just go with 1GB RAM. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/206635-which-memory-should-i-put/#findComment-584401538 Share on other sites
:: Lyon ::
Ugh..I'm not really a hardware geek (more into like software/gamer geek :)) I have an ASUS A7n8X with Athlon XP 2200 (I don't know what's the Front side bus speed of my Mobo) But I guess I won't need 1.5 Gb of RAM anyway. My machine in the office had 2 Gb of RAM and that's why my boss allowed me to take 1 Gb away since it's too much anyway :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/206635-which-memory-should-i-put/#findComment-584401569 Share on other sites

Do what you wish with your memory - it will not affect your FSB speed at all. stncttr908 Veteran Posted August 21, 2004 Veteran Share Posted August 21, 2004 Your CPU's bus speed is slower than both the PC2700 and PC3200, so if you don't plan on overclocking anything just use both, assuming the PC2700 is one stick.
