Which memory should I put

Recommended Posts

My kind boss in the office just gave me a 2x 512 Mb DDR PC3200 RAM :)

I have a 512 DDR PC2700 at home.

Should I:

a) put the new 2x 512 Mb ram and remove the old one, getting a 1 Gb RAM with PC3200 speed

b) put all of them, having a 1.5 Gb of RAM

(BUT different brand, and I know the CPU will not utilize the PC3200 but instead downgrading to PC2700 speed)

So, should you get more memory but less speed? or a 1 Gb with good speed

Ugh..I'm not really a hardware geek (more into like software/gamer geek :))

I have an ASUS A7n8X with Athlon XP 2200 (I don't know what's the Front side bus speed of my Mobo)

But I guess I won't need 1.5 Gb of RAM anyway. My machine in the office had 2 Gb of RAM and that's why my boss allowed me to take 1 Gb away since it's too much anyway :D

Your CPU runs on a 266Mhz FSB. Meaning you only need to use DDR266 (PC2100).

Do what you wish with your memory - it will not affect your FSB speed at all.
