someone explain the difference between techno..trance..house..whatever here in the states 'techno' is whats more overplayed and makes it on the radio and what not

tbh its very hard to try to define the three genres without actual sound... eheh - but ill give it a small go

actually i cant define Techno - its too hard lol

actually i cant define any of them in writing really - sorry

I spose i could try by naming a song from each r sumthin...

Techno: Ron Trent - Altered States

Trance (old Trance): Barbarella - Barbarella (Sven Vath)

House - (Deep House): Roger Sanchez - Livin For The Underground

(but these are all just very small examples from very big genres)

How I have come to understand the various genres of dance:

in the UK techno is usually all synthesised (ie very few natural instruments), bassy loud tunes from the likes of (Laurent Garnier, Green Velvet etc) and is almost always underground and rarely available on CD (there are some exceptions, with more commercial/mixed CDs) the BMP can vary

House is more varied and often has disco loops and vocals and isn't too high BMP (eg Roger Sanches, Daft Punk)

Trance is usually with longs synths and quite a quick BPM (eg Paul Van Dyke/Tall Paul)

Hardhouse is similar to hardcore (ie early 90s) mixed with euro trance and also has a high BPM (eg Tidy Trax records)

Garage has a more tinny sound and shorter hi-hats and long basslines and can have MCs quite often (eg So Solid Crew)

Drum and bass/Jungle is a quick style with long basslines and breaks (eg Adam F, Roni Size)

Breakbeat is like the sort of beats you get behind hip-hop (ie Nightmares on Wax) electro is like this but more minimal

Big beat is like Fat Boy Slim-style.

There are also genres which have developed more recentky, eg tech-house (a mix of techno and house) and some artists can cross genres. The main reason for genres imo is to allow vinyl dance specific record stores to be reasonably easy to navigate around, without them it'de be a nightmare.

yeh House is usually more 'funky' and 'phat bassline' oriented (lol that sounds ridiculous)

Yeh and modern Trance often also has sincopated basslines (i.e. in between the bass drums)

UK Garage Drumbeats are descendent from old House/Garage/Chicago-ey drumbeats, but dont have a 4/4 bass drum....

and Breakbeat/Hardcore is the precursor to the schism of Happy Hardcore versus Jungle, then in turn Drum n' Bass...

(lol this is real trainspotter stuff)

It may be silly to define genres but how else could you organise the thousands if records in a dance store? You'de be searching for hours to find a tune in the style you like.

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
