buzlink
I'm having a problem with my SP2 upgrade. Each time I boot my system it takes for ever to boot up. Once at the login screen it takes along time to login. Once that happens my wallpaper just sits there. Explorer never loads. Then I get an error saying that Remote Procedure Call service was terminated system must reboot. Task manager is the only program that I can use. Can I rerun SP2 setup? Where is it stored? Is there a link to a full download of SP2? Thanks It keeps doing this. How can I fix this. Booting into Save Mode has no effect either. Is there a solution? Can I use the recovery console? Can someone post a link or guide on using the recovery console? Formatting is not an option, as I have some valuable data on the drive. erp
Can you use file manager to restart explorer or browse? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/210073-sp2-and-install-problem-remote-procedure-call-serv/#findComment-584449802 Share on other sites
adamlyttle
Sounds like the remnants of a virus that you had on your computer prior to installing SP2. Have you tried booting up in safe mode? If you can do that, run a virus scan. uniacidz
At this stage, go into safe mode when booting by pressing F8, and select Boot Into Last Known Safe Configuration. Select that and will restore your comp for now. Make sure when restored, get ALL latest program updates and driver updates. Then try the SP2 install again. buzlink
WHy would it be a virus? Just scanned before done, and no viruses. Can't boot into Safe Mode, it has the same problem F8 Last Good Know Configuration doesn't work either! Explorer won't load if trying to run from the taskmanager. What file name for a file manager? Every thing was up to date as well. Marsden
Why do you assume scanning for viruses keeps you virus free? If some script kiddie unleashes a virus that just happens to not be on you AV definition list... your toast... don't rely on a very imperfect system of defense...
