Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 & Boot CD!

Recommended Posts

If you dont manage to get a sp1 cd only try to delete the svcpack.ini file and svcpack folder in the i386 folder of the winxp cd you copied to the hdd and try again.

I deleted the 2 files mentioned and HEY PRESTO! it slipstreams and I can continue with the rest of the guide. I burn the image OK. Then I go to boot from it and it all seems to be going OK, blue screen with files copying in the bar at the bottom. Then l it pops up with:

usbehci.sys - file is corrupted

So I think, "OK, lets burn it again, must be a bad CD", but it happened again.

I'm going to google the file usbehci.sys, see what I find.........

Thanks, I'm a complete noob to slipstreaming so I will have to give this a go tonight when I get home from work...

No problem at all. I actually was the entire time of writing the manual. Thats why I wrote it so I could learn. :D

I tried finding the file on the CD contents I could not find it. However that doesnt mean its not there. It may be within a packed file or I could have missed it as I did a quick refresh. Please update us on anything you get. Also please explain why you had to remove those two files. As I didnt clearly understand the whole story of why you had to remove them. What was your situation. :)

Thanks for mentioning this. However I didnt fully understand what you meant. Would you be able to explain it a little more in depth and I shall see what you mean and then write it up again into the manaul. Does this only happen with Dell XP OEM disks? Or will it happen with other XP disks? I have a feeling it's happening because its not a direct Microsoft Windows XP OEM disk, but instead its a licensed version from Dell where they have the rights to add and remove components of their own and Microsofts, am I right?

Some sites/guides teach you how to install some updates during the time windows get installed...its in that file that windows setup will look to "know" if there is updates to get installed or not.If that file doesnt exist...the sp2 will think theres no hotfixes slipstreamed. That doesnt occur because its an oem disk from someone, it occurs because it has some hotfix slipstream. I did one myself with the rollup update some months ago, and im pretty sure it will get that error if i try to slipstream sp2 to there.

hi everyone and thanks for a nice tuts for noobs :) ive been into slipstreaming and eltorito bootable cdrom's from begining, but i have another question...

maybe this is wrong thread for this kind of question? if so, plz feel free to move it to right location...

I have a question for you slipstreaming VLK guy's !

How do you slipstream a Corporate VLK image so it doesent need Activtion when you enter a real VLK Key (legit) after you have slipstreamed it? yeah, i know that we can download corporatefiles and change 2files, i know that... but not intrested to do that! but i wonder if anyone have tested the procedure below with rename SP2 Final original files? does it still works with SP2? can anyone confirm it? my second comp. is away on lan-games.. and i have no ax to a full version of wmware to test it :(

Anyway, your input is welcome :)

How to integrate XP Service Pack 1 to your VLK edition

So, your company has Windows XP Volume License Key edition licensing? Well this is just the tutorial for you!

Microsoft will eventually send out a CD with Service Pack 1 integrated, but you just ordered 50 new computers lacking operating systems.

What is a poor overworked admin to do? Install Service Pack 1 separately? never.

Up until now (SP1 Final), there has been no way to do this without loosing your VLK (no activation). Thus, turning it into RETAIL, that needed activation.

The process is so simple its almost silly to even make a tutorial out of it. I'm not going to tell you how to slipstream, but I'll tell you how to avoid the pitfalls.

Step 1) Extract the Service Pack files to a dir. Rename IPSELPID.DLL to PIDGEN.DLL and IPSELDPC.DL_ to DPCDLL.DL_

Step 2) Perform the slipstream of the SP1 into your extracted ISO, (or using WINISO if yr savvy, or lazy and don't want to destroy the boot sector of the CD)

Step 3) Burn or install from directory. If you extracted the iso, remember to make it bootable again if you need to.

Step4) Sit back and gloat that you saved hours installing and rebooting those 50 new computers.

There are some other guys with the usbehci.sys error here:

<a href='http://www.<< spam >>/board/index.php?act=ST&f=34&t=23915' target='_blank'>http://www.<< spam >>/board/index.php?act=ST&f=34&t=23915</a>

...but they seem no nearer a resolution than I am...

(it's m - s - f - n.o - r - g)

I wonder if replacing the original usbehci.sys file with a new usbehci.sys from and original legit winxp pro cd will when the other two files have been deleted will work. i can provide a download to the file and then people can place it where the original one was. if you are interested in trying this please post here so i can make the download available.

I have also updated the manual with a few minor an major updates including the error when trying to slipstream a winxp oem cd that already has updates on it. if anyone wants to add anymore comments suggestions or anything or has any problmes please post here.

EDIT: What I meant was replace Windows XP OEM CD usbehci.sys file with the usbehci.sys file from the Windows XP Pro Retail Full Version CD.

this might sound stupid, but how does slipstreaming work?

Take a look at the INTRODUCTION of my manual. It explains alot.

here is a link to the manual everyone...since this is the 6th page or something not much point going to page one just to get the link.

It's clear you put a great deal of effort into it and I think there are a lot of us out here who really do appreciate it.

It's great to see someone have that much attention to detail and be so diligent in fashioning it.

Continued thanks for the effort. (Y)

Thanks alot. The detail was an important thing for me. I dont see the point of a tutorial or guide if you dont explain EVERYTHING you have to do. It takes time and usually a lot of editing but its worth it when you get people like yourself commenting nicely on how usefull it was. Thanks so much again.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what they would like a detailed manual written about?

Regards

Peter

Maybe you could also show how to add pre-hacked dll files to the CD...

I am currently writing another manual now on how to add software to the cd which will automatically install with xp and how to add your drivers and dll's etc so that they get automatically installed.

I am also writing a detailed guide on how to do an unattended installation.

Dude, that manual rocks!

Thanks

I didnt expect so many people to actually like it! :woot:

I thought most people would think it was over written. But my intensions were so that any new computer user would be able to clearly understand it and learn from it. Seems like that goal is being reached. Thanks everyone for your support. :p

    • RevPDF 4.5.0 by Razvan Serea RevPDF is a free, fully offline PDF editor for Windows, macOS, and Linux that lets you edit text and images directly inside PDF files — no internet connection, no account, and no cloud uploads required. Unlike bloated alternatives that demand subscriptions and constant connectivity, RevPDF fits in under 60MB on desktop while delivering a complete editing toolkit: annotate, redact, sign, compress, split, merge, convert, and reorganize pages, all processed locally on your device. Smart font matching ensures edited text blends seamlessly with the original, and multi-language support includes RTL scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew. Where most PDF editors force you to choose between features and simplicity, RevPDF manages both. You can build interactive forms from scratch with text fields, checkboxes, and dropdowns, permanently redact sensitive data before sharing, draw freehand on contracts and diagrams, and add custom watermarks — all without a single file leaving your machine. Edit Text and Images Directly Inside PDFs RevPDF supports true inline PDF editing — not just annotation layers on top of a document, but actual modification of existing text and images within the file. A smart font-matching engine identifies the font used in the original document and applies it automatically when you make edits, so changes blend naturally with the surrounding content. You can reposition elements, resize images, and update text across single pages or entire documents. RevPDF 4.5.0 release notes: This is one of the biggest updates to RevPDF yet. A lot of things people have been asking for are finally here. New Features Auto Redaction Permanently redact sensitive text and areas from your PDFs before sharing. Clean, irreversible, and fully offline. Comments, Links & Bookmarks Add comments for review, insert clickable links, and create bookmarks to jump around long documents without scrolling forever. Find & Replace Search across the whole document and replace text in one go. Long overdue. Split Pages Vertically or Horizontally Split any page down the middle, vertically or horizontally. Perfect for scanned books or double-page spreads. New Drawing Tools More tools for freehand drawing and markup, better for annotations, sketches, and detailed notes. Continuous Scrolling in Editor The editor now scrolls continuously through pages instead of jumping between them. Working through long documents is a lot smoother now. PDF Metadata Editor View and edit the metadata stored inside your PDFs, including title, author, subject, and keywords. Better Font Matching Text edits now blend in more naturally by doing a better job of matching the original font. Tabbed PDF Viewer Open multiple PDFs at once in tabs and switch between them without going back to the home screen. Add Links Insert hyperlinks anywhere in your PDF, to external URLs or to other pages within the document. Share & Print Shortcuts Share or print directly from the editing screen, home screen, and viewer. No extra steps. Minor Updates Paste images directly from clipboard into your PDF New image editing tools for more control over images inside documents Bug Fixes Fixed file saving issues on Windows and Linux Everything still works fully offline. No login, no cloud, no account. Your files stay on your device. • Interesting. I'm not using a VPN with my phone. I tried though my home internet (Rogers) and my cellular internet (Telus) using their respective DNS servers and both trigger the dialog above.
