Today I recieved a stick of 256mb DDR SODIMM memory for my Dell Latitude C640 notebook, installation was a breeze, hooked everything up, but one problem..

One I turned the power on, the bios just hangs there and the progress bar does not move at all. I've tried everything that I could think of. There's already one 256mb stick in there, and when I switch them, it does the same thing, also when I only use the new stick in each one of the slots, it still freezes at BIOS startup.

I've upgraded my BIOS from A07 to A10, which is the latest.. I don't know what else to do.

If there's nothing I can do, that's $51 down the drain, unless I send it back to newegg.

Thanks.

copy the program to a disc or floppy and then run the program on start up with your new ram in. if you find it faulty give the results or whatever to newegg. if you just bought the ram then just return it. they have a good rma policy.

I doubt that will run as he cannot even get past the BIOS screen.

Is it DDR or SDRAM?

If it is SDRAM, then make sure it is compatible (PC66, PC100, PC133 etc - try to match it) Same for DDR RAM.

Also, some laptops do not like specific memory sizes, like my laptop at home cannot accept 512MB SODIMMS.

Is it branded memory?

It's DDR RAM. I'm not sure what you mean by branded memory, but it's made by Crucial.

On the package, it says 256MB 200-PIN SODIMM 32Mx64 DDR PC2100.

It's made by crucial so it is branded as opposed to generic no-name brand. Upgrading notebook memory can be a real bitch, there are some memory distributers that list specific ram for each notebook model. It should be cheaper, usally half the price of the cost of buying directly from your notebook manufacturer.

I ran search and found this for ya, first one I found so do some more searching if you want to find a better deal.
