0 Symbiotic Hat
I would go with NOD32. It's very good and free. /Edit: Oops sorry I guess I was thinking about AVG I guess. 0 slysy
You can get a free trial of NOD32, why not install it to help you decide? IMO NOD32 is better. So much lower on resources, so much quicker to perform a scan. And a better record on vb100. 0 TechyClaire
NOD32, it only uses a couple of meg whilst in the background, compared to what 20-30Mb for norton? It scans my system SO much faster, and has updates twice a day (they are only like 20k in size) If you wanted the norton to take over your recycle bin, include shredder, compression and all the other bloated crap go for it. If you want speed, accurate detection and low on resources NOD is the way to go Norton have done exactly what ZoneAlarm did, they were both one excellent, but instead of improving, making their products faster, and use less memory and scan quicker, they just added useless bloat into their program and called them new features. Basically anything is better than Norton for AV these days. 0 Dean W
hmm suppose that is true, their isnt really any point in having all the features that you get with Norton, Shredder etc. What features does NOD32 have? 0 mtrftw
umm it scans for viruses. it's doesn't have the fancy stuff you'll never use like norton does. nod32 is good and so is kaspersky. 0 KzR
Norton is definitely a resource hog. I'm using NOD32 on my secondary PC, it's working well. For my primary PC, I'm using McAfee's Enterprise AV software. The Enterprise version of the Anti-Virus software seems to be less resource hogging than the Home editon. 0 bazcook
Well if you've already got Norton and you're asking about another AV program, then there is obviously something that you don't like about NAV. Every AV program out there has good points and bad and they'll all miss something (however often you update) so you've got to first decide why you're asking about others and why you want to get rid of Norton. If you can figure that out then you've just got to suck it up and uninstall NAV and install a trial of the others - however lazy you profess to be. I gave up on McAfee years ago and ripped every vestige of Norton out at the beginning of the year. Norton is a resource hog and caused more inter-program conflicts than I care to report - plus, as with all retail AV programs, I resent having to pay a 'subscription' to keep a piece of software you've already bought valid. Yup, I've gone to a freebie (after considerable concern) and I've had no problems - while online scans monthly from other providers suggest nothing has slipped in unseen. There is no definitive answer to your question - I've heard that F-Secure, Kapersky, NOD32, etc is the 'best' retail product out there. You don't like Norton? Fine, do something about it. If you don't like the alternative and better you can always reinstall... 0 Bearded Kirklander
I'd go Norton or AVG probably. I think AVG may be better than Avast too, so it may be the best solution. http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ http://www.avast.com/eng/free_virus_protectio.html Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/212778-nod32-or-norton/#findComment-584489699 Share on other sites
