NOD32 or Norton?

Question

You can get a free trial of NOD32, why not install it to help you decide? IMO NOD32 is better. So much lower on resources, so much quicker to perform a scan. And a better record on vb100.

I'm a lazy mofo and I don't wanna uninstall Norton, install NOD32 and if I hate it, reinstall Norton and yuk, thats lots of rebooting too.. lol ;)

I like to see peoples opinions first. I trust my fellow neowins.

NOD32, it only uses a couple of meg whilst in the background, compared to what 20-30Mb for norton? It scans my system SO much faster, and has updates twice a day (they are only like 20k in size)

If you wanted the norton to take over your recycle bin, include shredder, compression and all the other bloated crap go for it. If you want speed, accurate detection and low on resources NOD is the way to go

Norton have done exactly what ZoneAlarm did, they were both one excellent, but instead of improving, making their products faster, and use less memory and scan quicker, they just added useless bloat into their program and called them new features.

Basically anything is better than Norton for AV these days.

Well if you've already got Norton and you're asking about another AV program, then there is obviously something that you don't like about NAV.

Every AV program out there has good points and bad and they'll all miss something (however often you update) so you've got to first decide why you're asking about others and why you want to get rid of Norton. If you can figure that out then you've just got to suck it up and uninstall NAV and install a trial of the others - however lazy you profess to be.

I gave up on McAfee years ago and ripped every vestige of Norton out at the beginning of the year. Norton is a resource hog and caused more inter-program conflicts than I care to report - plus, as with all retail AV programs, I resent having to pay a 'subscription' to keep a piece of software you've already bought valid. Yup, I've gone to a freebie (after considerable concern) and I've had no problems - while online scans monthly from other providers suggest nothing has slipped in unseen.

There is no definitive answer to your question - I've heard that F-Secure, Kapersky, NOD32, etc is the 'best' retail product out there. You don't like Norton? Fine, do something about it. If you don't like the alternative and better you can always reinstall...

    • Yup, broke my comp… again. its times like this when I regret AMD. This just never happens on NV.
    • Huh? You're delusional calling the Steam Deck dead. It is so successful that it has sold out multiple times. Even after the price hike this year it sold out again with 24 hours of being back in stock. The demand is real and has not died down even after four years.
    • Same place "Unreal III" is, in everyone's thoughts!
    • So how much water is used in that "initial charge" and how often will it need to be recharged?
