what apple said about my ipod...

Recommended Posts

my gf's ipod has a similar problem, and if i recall correctly, a lot of other people do as well. it's related to the fact that the ipod is never acually off, only standby, and that eventually drains the battery. now, how fast that happens varies. after a full charge, my gf's ipod can go maybe a few days unplugged, before the battery drains empty. for some people it happens in a day, for others it takes a week. but it does happen.

best place to get a ipod from is pcworld, thier first year manufacturers warranty or extended warranty is to return it back to the store, and get a replacement on the spot (providing the item is in stock).

One guy had a 3rd gen 20gb ipod, wouldnt play files continously (said it was fualty) so it was swapped for a 4th gen 40gb ipod (pcworld didnt have 3rd gen anymore). the guy paid ?299 for the 20gb 2rd gen and the 4th gen 40gb was 299. basically he got a free upgrade:pp

ok so just got it back, with no repairs/replacement etc...kinda ****ed, but I guess if they didn't find anything wrong...there's nothing I can do. They also said that if they need to charge me in correspondance with the charges communicated to me during my repair setup they will send me an invoice...trouble is, the lady on the phone didn't say JACK when we set it up; so can I just lay this on them, and not pay? That being said, anyone know how much it will be?

Bah, glah, ****e.

can I just lay this on them, and not pay?

no, because it states clearly in the terms and conditions that:

Apple may charge you a diagnostic fee including shipping charges, as described below, ("Diagnostic Fee"), plus applicable sales tax, if Apple inspects your product and determines based on the inspection that the product does not require repairs. If Apple determines, while inspecting your product, that repairs are needed due to the failure of parts that are neither supplied by Apple nor Apple-branded, Apple will return the product to you without repairing it, and may charge you the Diagnostic Fee plus applicable sales tax. If the repair requires additional labor or parts that were not specified in the estimated charges, Apple will ask for your approval of a revised estimate. If you do not agree that Apple may revise the estimated charges, Apple will return your product and may charge you the Diagnostic Fee plus applicable sales tax. Apple reserves the right to refuse repair service on products that have serial numbers altered, defaced or removed or that are damaged due to accident, abuse, neglect, misuse (including faulty installation, repair, or maintenance by anyone other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider), unauthorized modification, extreme environment (including extreme temperature or humidity), extreme physical or electrical stress or interference, fluctuation or surges of electrical power, lightning, static electricity, fire, acts of God or other external causes. In such event, Apple will return the product to you without repairing it, and may charge you the Diagnostic Fee, plus applicable sales tax.
a lot of people do complain tho, right?

Almost just like the Windows vs. Mac thing. People complain more about Windows because more people have it, and a good majority of those people are idiots. Windows and idiots (well, computer illiterate) don't go well together, especially if the idiot is an administrator on the system. :p

    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary in AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update but that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
    • ALL versions or ALL SUPPORTED versions? Neowin does it again.
    • But the reality is it will work for people's needs, and they don't care about the technology that makes it. Clearly not everyone's needs, but that low end space where personal laptops were only used to type emails, watch content and browse websites, but they didn't want to do that on a small screen device. Heck, writing that out I can now see the connection and reason it'll do so well. Apple is about experience. If the experience is bad, they don't release it. Low end Windows laptop manufacturers up until this point have not taken that into consideration ever before, so slow laggy usage with brittle slimey plastic shells were common. I hope that the low end space at least creates better physical products that last a bit longer, and if Microsoft get their act together, they could also have a solid OS on such low end hardware that would actually make the experience work for what the hardware was intended for. The fact that the CPU is a "cellphone", sorry mobile phone processor is irrelevant. It's about the experience, and so far, that sounds quite solid.
    • Hello, Bonjour is Apple's implementation of a multicast-DNS service, which allows devices running Apple's software and/or hardware to find each other on your local network.  I believe the Windows version was last updated around 2010. If you do not need it, you can stop and disable the Bonjour service in the Services Control Manager (filename: SERVICES.MSC).  Once you have done that, the operating system will no longer attempt to load the service.
