Umm can you or someone repost the screenshots ive refreshed and clicked and refreshed but they just arent coming up for me. I can see the one in the above post, but none in the main post.

Sounds like a nice app but until I see some screenies, no dice for me.

Thanks.

just my opinion...but I do not believe you *need* to change your name...mainly because though your app is called FirePad, it is not claiming to be the company FirePad, nor is it claiming any affiliation with them, and it was designed not knowing they existed. However it would be easier to just change the name instead of 'interpreting' infringement laws...however if you cant think of anything, I do the network for a lawfirm, I could ask them an opinion on it, its pretty straight forward :)

You could also probably call it Fire Pad, as the space would then make it a different name than the company and program they offer :p

the screenshot above is on a free server of my ISP, that's why tou can see it. all other screenshots and download links, meaning, my whole website, is down. I don't know what's happening exactly but I'm trying to find out with my webhost. anyway, the screenshots are a bit outadate now, I'll have to make new ones.

@SkyyPunk, actually, the company is caleed Firepad but they also ahve software named firepad, and like they said in the e-mail, they have it copyrighted... don't bother with that, thanks anyway, I just made all the necessary changes for the name so...

I told ya the settings dialog could be changed before or when the new version is released and, here it is, a screenshot of the upcoming version, 0.5. Hope you like it the way it is turning out... Don't get mad at me cause of the all eye-candy (wich is not much really), there's also some new features that will please some users, I think.

Tell me what you think about it.

(to be released in a near future)

So far it looks good.. I'd mess around with it if I didn't have to install it. But because I have to install it, and I probably won't use it to much, I won't. Therefore, I'll comment on what I see in the screenshots.

It looks really nice. I recommend that you change the Help Tips box on the right of the settings, though. I realize that you are trying to mimc what can be seen by other tooltips throughout Windows, but it doesn't go well with your application at all.

Secondly, the right click menu of your tray icon is terribly ugly. Why? Because it isn't consistent with all of the other right click menus down there. Take out the header name and make it normal, no matter how much time you might've spent adding that header. It just doesn't fit.

Next, capitalize "windows" in your settings form.

I'd recommend taking the version number out of the main form's title.

BTW, you are a great graphic artist. I love all the graphics you've made for this, your sig, and your avatar.

I agree with capitalizing Windows in the "start with Windows" option, but I disagree with the context menu, I think that looks just fine...it doesnt add clutter to it or anything because it is such a simple menu...

looking good, and looking forward to the next release :)

@todd`

I seriously don't understand what's the problem some people have with installing this, it doesn't install anything "wird" on the computer, it doesn't add anything to the registry(besides the control panel add/remove entrie). All it ddoes, is copy files to the dir you selected and that's it, the only registry entrie added is for the control panel add/remove programas and for the startup with windows if you select that option. the unstainller will even remove the startup registry entrie if you have it there.

About the tooltips help box, we'll see what effect as on the users taht will actually use it, if the majority doesn't like it, I might consider removing it.

About the right menu in the tray, I kinda like it and I don't think it's that ugly. and no, it didn't took me much time to do it, even if it did, it doesn't matter because it improved my programming skills :). However, I might just change the colors to ones accordingly to the windows one, to fit better the current theme the user is using.

Capitalize windows, I'll do that. I know this has anything to do with my main language not being english, but that helps in writing stupid english in my application, so if you (or anyone) have better suggestions for all the text in the app, I would be glad to hear it :).

thanks for the graphics comments, you can see some other stuff I've done in my website, specially website designs, that's what I like to do most.

thank you for your constructive critic, most people are not like that :p

@SkyyPunk

thank you for your feedback too

Very useful, nice app Nazgulled !

I've tried your application a few hours ago and I've used it many times since it's installed.

It looks like ShirusuPad for me but the interface is better.

It would be great to have an option for FireNote window to disappear automatically after x seconds.

@SkyyPunk

it's an idea... :)

@pascal421

I actually didn't know at all ShirusuPad... I didn't try it out but I liked the tabbed notes thing and I actually don't like much the ComboBox I have, but now, I'm not thinking in tabs for my app...

the disappear thing is an idea too, but would I do that? x seconds after the user has called for the main dialog? or x seconds after the last action? if last action, what should I monitor? clicks on all the buttons? click on the tray? text changed on the textbox? click on the combobox? if the user opens the settings/about dialogs, should I hide it automatially too? or wait for them too close and start counting the seconds?

another question for the people that uses this: Do you like the ComboBox to select notes? What do you think of it? There's a 100 limit of items in the combobox (not by me, the control itself), do you think someone might need more? Do you have any other idea to display the list of all the notes?

Just a little update, version 0.5.1 released with only 2 bugfixes, one of them was really annoying me :p

- Updated Hans Blomme NotifyIcon component to version 0.3, to fix some bugs.

- Fixed bug where note title disappeared after renaming it and change the allow renaming setting.

Same old link ;)

I just installed the latest version.

I really like the ability to resize and move the window.

And it restores the previous window position on startup!

The only thing that still bothers me is the memory usage.

With the sliding effect enabled: 22 MB

With the sliding effect disabled: 16 MB

Way too much. 3 to 5 MB is enough.

i'm not going to explaint it again, that's how .NET works, read the whole topic or do a search on how .NET handles memory.

  • 4 weeks later...

Quick solution for the memory hog issue:

-- VB.NET --

Private Declare Auto Function SetProcessWorkingSetSize Lib "kernel32.dll" (ByVal procHandle As IntPtr, ByVal min As Int32, ByVal max As Int32) As Boolean

Private Sub ShrinkMemSize

Dim Mem As Process

Mem = Process.GetCurrentProcess()

SetProcessWorkingSetSize(Mem.Handle, -1, -1)

End Sub

-- C#.NET --

[DllImport("kernel32.dll")]

static extern bool SetProcessWorkingSetSize(IntPtr procHandle, Int32 min, Int32 max);

private void ShrinkMemSize

{

System.Diagnostics.Process Mem;

Mem = Process.GetCurrentProcess();

SetProcessWorkingSetSize(Mem.Handle, -1, -1);

}

I wasn't sure which language you used so decided to give both :), it works for my programs hope it works for you:P.

I use vb.net so the first one will be ok. but what exactly does that? instead of allocating an ammount of memory will allocate only the needed memory like most applications? Or how does it work? Another question, do I have to put that code in a module or something and then call ShrinkMemSize? What's the best place to call this?

The best way to put it in code I find is to put it in the form load even and yes it only allocates what is necessary for the application from a running point, it isn't good for big applications but alas this is not a huge app. Below is how i'd use it.

--AFTER WINDOWS FORMS DESIGNER GENERATED CODE --

Private Declare Auto Function SetProcessWorkingSetSize Lib "kernel32.dll" (ByVal procHandle As IntPtr, ByVal min As Int32, ByVal max As Int32) As Boolean

-- --

--IN FORM LOAD PROCEADURE --

Dim Mem As System.Diagnostics.Process

Mem = System.Diagnostics.Process.GetCurrentProcess()

SetProcessWorkingSetSize(Mem.Handle, -1, -1)

-- --

If you have further queries just give us a shout :) and enjoy reduced mem usage.

thanks...

anyway, I tried it to build a new version with and without that code and I only see a difference ofa bout 5mb but the lowest memory used just right after compiling and running it was about 15mb... shouldn't be a little lower for the kind of application i'm developing?

    • You can't remove Safari though. Or almost any other bundled app for that matter, and pretty much all of them are useless to me (and there are is a heap of them compared to Windows). I'll much rather take Edge than Safari, at least it can be highly customized vs. Safari. I'll take a PC with ten Edges over a Mac any day though as I can't stand all the limitation and painfully frustrationg restriction that make me dislike their stuff with a burning passion, iOS included (especially iOS).
    • DVD only? What kind of self-respecting optical disk backup/ripping tool doesn't support Blu-ray these days? I burned all my DVDs like 15+ years ago...

    • Glow 26.9 by Razvan Serea Glow provides detailed reporting on every hardware component in your computer, saving you valuable time typically spent searching for CPU, motherboard, RAM, graphics card, and other stats. With Glow, all the information is conveniently presented in one clean interface, allowing you to easily access and review the comprehensive hardware details of your system. Glow provides detailed information on various system aspects, including OS, motherboard, processor, memory, graphics card, storage, network, battery, drivers, and services. The well-organized format ensures easy access to the required information. You can export all the gathered data to a plain text file, facilitating sharing with others for troubleshooting purposes. No installation needed. Just decompress the archive, launch the executable, and access computer-related information. Glow runs on Windows 11 and Windows 10 64-bit versions. Glow 26.9 changelog: New Features The processor hardware detection engine has been significantly enhanced beyond traditional Intel and AMD architectures. Native support is now available for modern platforms such as Apple Silicon (M-Series) and the newly introduced NVIDIA Spark. In addition, all ARM-based processors can now be accurately distinguished between ARM32 and ARM64 architectures, providing precise hardware reporting. This marks a major milestone for Glow's hardware detection capabilities. The RAM manufacturer identification algorithm has been expanded. JEDEC vendor codes for popular brands such as Patriot, PNY, Team Group, GeIL, Lexar (Longsys), and Asgard/Gloway have been integrated into the database. This significantly reduces the likelihood of incorrect or "Unknown Manufacturer" results and improves overall hardware detection accuracy. New Public IP Address and Internet Service Provider (ISP) features have been added to the Network section. To ensure reliability, this information is retrieved from the trusted service ipwho.is. When Hiding Mode is enabled, no requests are sent and these features remain hidden, as they may expose sensitive information. The search engine used in the Installed Drivers, Installed Services, and Installed Applications sections has been enhanced. You can now perform more flexible and accurate searches using initials, partial matches, and loosely arranged character sequences. The TS Preloader loading bar has been rebuilt using our modern TS Custom Controls graphics library, developed entirely in-house. As a result of this infrastructure upgrade, the loading bar now features smooth rendering and rounded corners that align with the visual style of Windows 11. [TS Updater] A new validation algorithm has been added to check whether the target application is currently running before the update process begins. Bug Fixes Resolved a condition that could prevent TS Preloader from shutting down safely during rare application crash scenarios. Fixed a text alignment issue in the Network section affecting the display of DNS addresses. Alignment is now rendered correctly. [TS Updater] Fixed an issue that could prevent the updated application's executable "*.exe" file from being located after the update process. [TS Updater] Fixed a bug that could leave outdated "*.sha256" files in the application directory after an update. [TS Updater] Fixed a rare issue that could cause subfolders to be moved into the root directory after an update. [TS Updater] Fixed an issue during the first launch that could cause flickering and a temporary white window appearance due to Windows Defender interactions. Changes A small improvement has been made to the internet connectivity detection algorithm. Connectivity checks are now performed in the background with minimal impact on the user interface thread. The keyboard shortcuts in the top menu have been reorganized and simplified to provide a consistent experience across all Türkaysoft applications and to avoid potential conflicts with standard Windows shortcuts. The TS Preloader splash image has been updated with a Türkiye-themed stadium design to celebrate Türkiye's qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup—its first appearance in 24 years. Congratulations, Türkiye! The TS Custom Controls module has been updated to version 26.6, delivering improved stability and a more polished visual appearance. [TS Updater] The application icon has been redesigned to provide a more modern and refined look. Note: Always unzip the program before using it. Otherwise you may get an error.
