Since the Sims 2 isn't even out yet, you probably aren't running a legit copy (am I right?)

You should wait for it to come out and then purchase it. The retail version will probably have these bugs fixed

Not true, he cud be a guy who works at a retail store that has it since it goes on sale tomorrow and is trying to play it :)

A) Update your video drivers

B) Run dxdiag and test it to see if everything is okay

C) Have fun and we all know your gonna make two of the same sex kiss in it.. lol :)

9800 XT doesn't support SM3.0 and PS3.0 thus its not a DirectX 9.0c Graphics card. It is a DirectX 9.0b card. Also update yoru Drivers to Cat 4.9 and try reducing the gpx settings in the game.

Any nVidia Gefoce 6800 card is a DirectX 9.0c card because they all support SM3.0 and PS3.0

I doubt the Sims2 relies on those technologies.

You mostly likely enabled an option to use Shader Model 3.0 support, which the Radeon 9800 XT obviously does not support. Try removing the configuration files and placing them into a temporary directory, hopefully the game will rebuild these files with the default settings.

I have Cats 4.9 WHQL. I didn't managed to run it once.So no way i can change the game settings.

Sims 2 is not using SM3.0 so it's not necesarry to ahve a SM3.0 card.I've heard about this problem from more people so it's not something particulary.I think it's a bug or something

PS: here are the system specs need to run Sims 2:

Sparxxx: I had the same problem and same setup you have. I looked around awhile for a fix but couldnt find anything , tried it on a friends computer who had a 9500 and it worked. I decided to try running it in windowed mode by adding the command " -w" at the end of the target, it loaded in windowed mode and so I set the video settings then quit and went back and removed the command from the shortcut. I have had no problems since, hope this helps :)

The game is great! I am running a copy at the moment. My version will arrive in the stores tomorrow. This version is not so much focussed on the micro management as the sims 1. Finally you have some free time to do fun stuff and you even have some days off in a work week. The animations are great and some situations are really hilarious. I have no regret buying this game for my gf. I like playing it myself :D If you didn't like the sims 1 you might still have a great time playing the sims 2 !

i have your answer.

reset refresh force (or whatever app your using) to default settings.

i hate it when games dont have support for 3rd party refresh rate fix programs, broken sword 3 was the same

man that card is soooo old

good luck trying to though. Seriously, this game is a ****ing hog. I have a 2.6 P4c overclocked to 3.2, 1 gig of ddr400 and a radeon 9700 pro and it lags at times.

i doubt it requires those features since i got it running on my lowly gforce 5200fx
