how do i create a server on my comp

I don't think you can on XP Home, i think you need Professional for that. Don't quote me on it tho... Long time since i used Windows XP and stuff...

Kind of. You need XP Pro to do it with the stuff MS has. You can download any FTP Server (Google time!) and set it up on XP Home.

you all are off lol. for an ftp server just get servu , bulletproof or ioftpd.. and theres no need for IIS . so no you dont need XP pro

Apache is an HTTP server (httpd service). You can't run FTP on it. Try WARFTPD (free, best)

Right```Since U want to set up a FTP server, Serv-U is your best choice. Its very easy to use.

Yeah, any server software (filezilla is what I use) will do just fine. One thing to remember, is to make sure you have it set up securely with a nice long password that isn't going to be easily cracked and what not. Is you are behind a router, also make sure to set up your ports correctly.

Just run FileZilla from Soundforge (the WinAmp guys). It's free, easy to use and I don't see why it can't run on any Win32 platform.

u can use ur IP address directly`` or somehow u can use dynamic domain

On that site you will find free clients that update your dynamic ip to the name whenever it changes.

this is what i did to set up my computer as a server (xp Pro)

i just installed APPserv (in sourceforge)

and did the dyndns.com thing so my address would be easier and it would automatically update my ip.

Ahhh I had this problem. I had to use a local IP to log in from my pc. But people outside my network could use the dyndns to log in.
