.org domains

Since the .com and.net version of the domain I want is taken is there anything wrong about getting a .org? Are they reserved for organizations? Do they have any kind of connotation associated with them? Are they harder to remember for the average user?

You really should use the 'proper' domain extension for your website.

.com *should* be for commercial websites based in the US or worldwide.

.net *should* be for tech websites based in the US or worldwide.

.org *should* be for non-profit or not-for-profit organisations based in the US or worldwide.

If the net had stuck to these conventions and websites had to give justification for using the domain names they do, the net would be a much better place now!

I still wanna own garry.com but some sods registered it years ago and keep renewing, even though they're only using it as a holding page.

Seriously, .org sound better to us techies for some reason. They are unpretentious and sound professional.

It was MEANT for orgs, but you sitll can use it. though if people put the wrong extension they will go to the wrong site...

.com is old news but the most common. .org and .net are nice. I prefer .net :p

Back to topic... Get a .ws (Samoa) or .to (Tuvalu, I think) or even a .cc (Cocoa Island) TLD. They are pretty cool and sound nice :p

i have a .com a .net and a .org domain, ( :p ) i think people remember .com more because the phrase "dot com" is associated with the internet...

You can get .org .com .net .info and other ones internationally.

There are others but nothing special.
