lhommefm
Since the .com and.net version of the domain I want is taken is there anything wrong about getting a .org? Are they reserved for organizations? Do they have any kind of connotation associated with them? Are they harder to remember for the average user? Thanks. Garry
You really should use the 'proper' domain extension for your website. .com *should* be for commercial websites based in the US or worldwide. .net *should* be for tech websites based in the US or worldwide. .org *should* be for non-profit or not-for-profit organisations based in the US or worldwide. If the net had stuck to these conventions and websites had to give justification for using the domain names they do, the net would be a much better place now! I still wanna own garry.com but some sods registered it years ago and keep renewing, even though they're only using it as a holding page. lnmnky
Get a .biz address. Everyone trusts businesses right? Seriously, .org sound better to us techies for some reason. They are unpretentious and sound professional. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/218693-org-domains/#findComment-584572488 Share on other sites

I don't think it's that specific. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/218693-org-domains/#findComment-584572502 Share on other sites
lhommefm
Anybody have any stats on how many people misremember a .org address as .com? The .com version of the domain is a ad filled holding page. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/218693-org-domains/#findComment-584572520 Share on other sites

Garry
Are you sure that's what .net is for? I don't think it's that specific. What are the rules for registration of .biz, .com, .info, .name, .net and .org names? The .com, .info, .name, .net, and .org TLDs are open and unrestricted. Traditionally, however, names in .net have been used by organizations involved in Internet infrastructure activities and .org is frequently used by noncommercial organizations. .biz is reserved for use by businesses. For more information on .biz restrictions, please contact your registrar or visit the .biz registry operator at <www.nic.biz>. .name is dedicated exclusively to individuals' personal names.
