Mac question about wireless mouse?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, im still waiting for my 17" Powerbook to arrive, should be anyday now, ive been tracking it, its gone from SHANGHAI, SH, CHINA to LUXEMBOURG, LU and now DUIVEN, GE, NL! Hopefully it will be with me in Coventry, England soon!

Anyway I have been busy researching things to buy for it, im like a man obsessed!

Im bidding on about 4 monitors on ebay lol, anyway im looking at getting a wireless mouse but i have some questions....

First, with Apple's own wireless mouse is there a external connector for it? Or does the Powerbook pick it up once bluetooth is enabled? I really would like it if it just worked without having to plug anything into my Powerbook, my second question.......

Is there a similar mouse that has two buttons, and by similar i mean i want a wireless mouse that needs no external connector and has two buttons?

Thanks alot, im so eager i cant sleep lol, every vehicle that i hear coming down my road i run to look out the window just in case lol!

Momma :)

All bluetooth Mouse + Keyboard will be compatible with your powerbook, No bluetooth mouse/Keyboard have any plug ins (if they did they wouldn't be bluetooth would they) if you see a bluetooth mouse/keyboard on an online store showing it plugged into anything like a dock or just a cable thats just to show you it charging (some have rechargeable batteries when some just take normal batteries that you have to replace).

Look around on the net there are some great Bluetooth mouses there is 1 that is white with a scroll wheel and 2 buttons its made specifically to go with Mac products (although it will work on any computer with bluetooth and the right keyboard/mouse bluetooth profile). I cant remember the name of it though sorry.

Congrats on the powerbook purchase.

thanks for clearing up the bluetooth issue m8, does anybody know the mouse that winmaclin is talking about is it the macmouse? anybody know of any good mice and come to think of it a good backpack for a 17" powerbook, ive looked at targus and brenthaven but its too expensive to ship it to england?

Thanks

He's talking about mice in general. The apple mouse works very nicely indeed but you should probably take a look at the Logitech MX700, MX900 and MX1000 - all amazing mice.

As regards bags, drop into Micro Anvika (a great Mac retailer in the UK). Don't know where the nearest one to Coventry is - I only know the two in Manchester (they're both within Selfridges branches). You could also try John Lewis too. Marware bags are the best though. :)

I'm looking for a Bluetooth mouse as well, but the prices are way up...

Macally makes one for about $70 CDN

There is the Bluetake mouse, it looks nice and has the feature of an on off switch on the bottom so that the batteries don't get drained if the mouse is in your bag, but I can't get a clear price on it.

Of course, Microsoft and Logitech have mice, but I don't think that all of the buttons are recognized.

I don't like the Apple mouse because it doesn't have a scrollwheel.

Belkin has a mouse, but I just don't like it and can't find a dealer around here.

For a backpack, I'm using a Swiss Army bag that I bought from Staples for about $50... I love it, and it protects the computer well, it keeps the computer about 4 inches off the ground... That's all I can help you with for now...

With my laptop I just use a ?15 Microsoft Optical mouse lol. I don't really care if its wireless or not I mean I don't see the point.. when the battery gets low you get lag on the mouse / keyboard you gotta do charging and if ya not gonna be using ya computer from 10 meters away lol?? I just cant see how anyone can justify the cost of a bluetooth mouse + keyboard (?120 if from apple) when you could buy the wired versions for ?49 or so?. Just seems a bit silly to me.

and remember if you are on holiday or something thats 2 more charges you have to take 1 for the mouse 1 for the keyboard as opposed to just 1 cable with your laptop...

BTW when you was saying in your first post about wireless mouse and keyboard that need an adapter on the computer they are just normal radio frequency/infrared ones (they are allot cheaper) but they are not Bluetooth ones.

Have you looked at this one? Just became available recently and is in the pre-order stage.

Thats the one i meant in my first post (couldn't remember the name of it) 1 thing though the guy who created that company has also made like 20 others and they all went bust after he did shady dealings and stuff so be wary think his names Tom <Something> cant remember.

thanks for all the replies, im looking into all of your suggestions right now, yeah im not sure whether to get a bluetooth mouse or not, for my pc i am using a wireless keyboard and my 5 year old intellimouse optical, but for my mac i was thinking bluetooth as i will be taking it into uni and to my girlfirends and in the living room downstairs etc would be nice just to have no wire for all of that but im not sure if it justifies the price lol, im really looking hard for a bag, its annoying not being able to find one, as most of the places suggested are in the U.S and the shiping alone rules them out, ill keep on looking!

update on my mac....

as of 21.21 last night (16th) it is in a depot in Eindhoven, Holland which is not too far from England, hopefully it will be in england today!

keep the mice and backpack suggestions coming!

and solaris what do you mean when you say you bind the nouse buttons for expose? is that the window thing where it zooms out and lets you see all of your open windows?

Cheers
