possible to display welcome screen on server 2003?

Recommended Posts

I am running many of the Stardock products on my home workstation (Server 2003, because I wanted to run 3x80gb drives in a raid 5 array) , i.e. Windowblinds OD etc, and would like to have the Windows XP style welcome login screen.

Currently I have to use the standard CTR-ALT-DEL to login to the workstation, would love to just use the Windows XP style welcome screen.

Am I missing something in the Group Policy that I can turn on or off to enable this. It appears I have the exe on the system "loginui.exe" windows\system32\loginui.exe

If I can not turn it on through the OS, is there some style software to enable this feature?

Thanks,

Use X-Setup. There is an option named (or similar to) "Use XP style login screen" under Login/Boot settings.

To change the user pictures, go to the folder "x:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\" and substitute a picture from the folder "Default Pictures" as the one with your username on it.

I've installed the latest version of X-Setup.

I was able to change, and add a background image for the login screen, but I could not find anywhere within the application to change the login style to "XP Style login". I always have to use the "CTRL-ALT-DEL", of course I can turn that off through group policy, but then all it does is always display the username / password interface, without needing to do the "CTRL-ALT-DEL" first.

If I am missing something, I would appreciate it if someone could enlighten me. :)

Otherwise, thanks for the suggestions.

To allow a Login screen on 2K3, Use X-Setup, and navigate through the following:

All X-Setup Pro Plugins > Startup/Shutdown > Startup > Windows NT/2K/XP > #31) Inside Login Window

Change the selction to "Enable Welcome-Window Style", hit apply, and reboot.

**I know I dug up an old thread, but this provides useful information**

    • Honestly, i either don't care, mind, use, or had any problem with those. 11 is really good for me, has a lot of little refinements, looks great, if i wanted to tweak/fix it's behavior i would with a range of tools, and wouldn't come back to the 2010's looking Win 10 even at gunpoint.
    • You dont want a expensive hp laptop either managed to get 3 new zbooks and they all died on me.
    • Nothing inherently wrong, but why buy 2021 tech in 2025? Assuming you were aiming for 6-10 years of usage, better to buy something current.
    • I have begun using Windows 11 native passkey feature. i have four passkeys set up so far. Three work fine, One has never worked. I have removed it and recreated it several times, still no luck. Anyway, on the websites in which it works, it works geat. No more two 2FA.
