How much does an Olympic Gold Worth in Ur Country?

Recommended Posts

Hi All..

I have hearted in the news that the Egyptian Wrestler who got the golden medal in Athens 2004 received around $500,000 as a reward from the government for his achievement..

And out of curiosity I would like to know what is the reward in other parts of the world?

So do you have any idea how much did the Olympic champions in your country or any other country in the world got?

Its very doubtful that any medal holder in Team GB get paid any sort of money by the Government, if they are good then as insanekiwi said there is the prospect of product endorsments and contracts that could net them millions.

Cool! I guess it was worth his training :)

Depends on the sport the Medal was won in. But something like track and fields 100 A gold medal there well get you a BIG shoe deal from someone probly Nike.

true, companies pay the athletes to do advertisements with a new shoe or their product.

ie:

Micheal Johnson + Nike

Micheal Phelps + Speedo(or TYR)

etc. etc.

An Olympic gold medalist is treated as a god here in Singapore. The government gives the medalist S$1 million for it. But too bad Singapore hasn't gotten a gold medal in its entire history. The best result was a silver medal won by a weightlifter few decades back.

Nothing in the us most of the time

Not true... I read somewhere about how much the comittee pays gold medal winners... can't remember how much, but I remember it was something. I don't think it was a lot, though... I want to say $5,000 or something.

Then there's the endorsement deals, but I don't count those.

I don't think Michael Jordan clinched his Nike deal because of his basketball Olympic gold medal. Rather I think it's because of his superb performance in the NBA.

You should have said close to nothing, then ;)

I just checked, it's actually $35,000. Far from nothing. I knew it had a 5 somewhere in it.

The 'Oarsome' Foursome endorses Golden Valley Fruit Products, don't they?

I remember seeing Ian Thorpe promoting Speedo quite a while ago.

Correct, Thorpe is making tons now from all sorts of endorsements and investments now

Back to the topic...

Depedning on the event, and who won the medal it differs a lot. Like the last winter Olympics. Australia got 2 gold medals (never got any gold before) and both ended up makin a bit out of endorsements, especially our women's aerial ski jumper Alyssa Camplin (think i spelt it right). She's still doing ads now and it all started from the Winter Olympics. But, if Grant Hackett were to win a gold in the 1500m freestyle it isn't a big deal really. Hasn't lost in the event since '97 I think

    • LOL. Can't even quote and edit a comment correctly. Figures you're a Linux user.
    • I have disabled it, but the app is still taking space. I have a Mac and it is only possible to disable Ai on that, but I think that bit does get rid of the AI components after a while. What we are told is that we agree to all this when we use the devices as it is in the end user agreements, their software, they can do what they like. I doubt that any bill will happen in the U.S, the government there are in league with big tech firms. The E.U maybe, they seem to have some guts when it comes to tech companies. The U.K is not in the E.U, but some things still affect us. Our government is as gutless when it comes to tech companies as the U.s government.
